    * Ant and Dec
    * Brexpoo – EU baddie stuff
    * Casey – the randy Bishop one
    * A Rolling Stones Tour
    * Another Dodgie Govt Contract making the same men rich
    * Hospital Trollies etc
    * Corruption in Sport

    We’rve been in a hamster wheel for the 15 last years
    And I’ve just realised it

    What’ll make it stop and let us off

    Maybe the Chans have it right ya know
    Living in the other dimensions is the way to go

    Or maybe move off grid entirely

    Sorry lads
    But those Sunday papers are pathetic
    It could easily be a rerun of a batch of Sundays in 2005
    Why the feck do they still bother since they’re not even making a buck

      Fully agree. Same for all papers, every day. Rehash of articles, supplements etc. I guess it is white noise to soothe us. Actually depressing in an existential kind of way. As a roll up of things, our collective output and environment is (a) pretty pathetic or (b) incapable of being conveyed.

        Commercial advertising churn
        It could all be just as simple as that
        With some freebies for their space buying customers
        Well not just some
        Loads

        An interesting study would be to dissect one
        In a Management Accounting way
        Like a proper Bean Count

        And extract;
        % of Paid for Advertising
        % of *PR
        % of Classified
        % of scooped news (is that what it’s called? Fresh journalist sourced news)
        % Ongoing news like tribunal and PAC stuff
        % Reporting : Courts, Match and Racing results, Horoscopes
        % of news releases – stuff that is handed to them – for free but it's content that doesn't have a big overhead like payroll
        % of **Sport
        % of reviews – exploded out further into Restaurants, Books, Motor, Holidays, Theatre stuff, Cinema etc. This detail would be interesting to see if it's really commercially driven, and a contributor to the Churn that relies on its' being sold as a News Paper
        That on its own is a business decision – to maintain the Asset Value of the Mast Head
        % of reader provided: letters
        % of activities: crosswords games puzzles chess bridge whathaveya
        * % celebrity columns

        * Split out the Pics : launches with pretty girls,
        announcements xyzs engagement , lobbied spin and advertorials even further
        ** Split out into results, match reports, news and previews, and of course opinions etc

        Sorry about the long post everyone
        There’s probably loads of typos but I don’t get to edit
        So
        HMD everyone

          Sorry V, who’s making a loss?

          INM profit for 2018, €9 million profit
          Irish Times (which now incorporates the Examiner), €2 million profit
          Doesn’t the management of the SBP claim it is profitable.

          Not sure about the British papers, but like Tesco, I think they see Ireland as “treasure island”.

            Apologies if I mislead there E

            I was attempting to demonstrate that as business vehicles they’re not worth investing in
            But the mastheads promise cheap money

            You are not being sold News or Scoops or Journalism
            You’re getting reheats and other businesses news they they’re paid the paper for
            Either in €€€ or in kind
            Or most likely both

    To paraphrase Bob Monkhouse

    “When I said I was going to become the President, they all laughed. Well, they’re not laughing now, are they? ”

    Comedic powerhouse Bunty is suing Peter Casey and the publishers of the Indo. The Sunday Times reports

    “Burke is alleging that she was defamed by a question posed by Kevin Doyle, INM’s political editor, about her disruption of a live presidential debate on RTE Television hosted by Claire Byrne. She claims that the response by her rival Casey was also defamatory.

    In tweets, Burke has complained that Casey “suggested I may have been armed, which is ludicrous”. She is unhappy that he was not challenged about this by the interviewer. INM declined to comment last week.”

    Where’s the PwC report on the scandalous cost of the National Childrens Hospital, which was due “by the end of March”?

    Will it examine the performance of Denis O’Brien’s Siteserv as claimed in an internal memo at the Hospital?

    “t was noted “the project is currently five months behind schedule” and “the performance of Actavo [Siteserv] has not been up to standard”.”

    1. eoin

      Not to worry, according to the Sunday Times, Richard Bruton is about to award a €3 billion contract for broadband to a consortium which includes DOB’s Siteserv.

      Aren’t we due an update on the Siteserv commission of investigation by the “end of March” as well?

      And people ask what Michael Lowry gets for propping up this government.

      1. GiggidyGoo

        Actavo may be ‘part’ of the consortium, but they are a major part of it. We are being fed the line that Actavo are experts at delivering communications. Since when? Since Siteserv came into existence a wet week ago – with taxpayers money helping it along.
        €3bn mentioned. That kind of money would be a life saver for a communications entrepreneur that was having extreme pressure elsewhere in the world. And like preceding businesses that were supported by the State (Eircom, Esat) it could (will) be sold off quite easily.

        If FG do go ahead with this generousity, it’ll the the final nail in their political coffin. All of the little would-be new candidates will get a fair shock when they try canvass.

    EU would delay Brexit again to let UK hold a second referendum

    … senior Brussels officials familiar with leaders’ thinking say that barring a credible plan to get a majority for the withdrawal agreement, the UK would be given more time only if it was for another clear option such as a general election or a referendum.

    The EU has already warned that a further extension, which could run until at least the end of the year, would also require the UK to take part in European parliament elections scheduled for the end of May.

    The Sunday Times reports that the publisher of the Indo/Sindo etc, INM is suing the former CEO/whistleblower Robert Pitt.

    Nine months after INM sued ex-chairman Leslie Buckley (remember him? remember his charity? anyone seen him at all lately?) and has done sweet fupp all in progressing its claims, it now sues the whistleblower who blew the whistle on shenanigans at INM – the purchase of Newstalk, secret success fees, the hacking of journalists emails.

    Of course, the whistleblower Robert Pitt lost the sheen off his halo when it emerged he ordered an investigation of how an internal email ended up on the pages of the Phoenix, but still, for the INM board to decide to sue him, that’s pretty low.

    Front page of the Sunday World, boss of Kinahan organised crime group is living beside David and Victoria Bechham in Dubai. Corrupt bribe-ridden kip Dubai is ruled by Mary Robinson’s bffs, the Maktoums, Mo and his missus. I wonder does Mary give a flying fupp about the murder and misery that the Kinahans wreck in every city, town and village in this country, or does she consider it impolite to raise the matter at all.

    …ah…poor Jagger ill…maybe he picked up more than blood money when he played Tel Aviv…

      Speaking of financial difficulties I can’t find any info on who’s funding this :

      ‘ The The Hibernia Forum is an independent advocacy group supporting a free market, individual liberty and prudent Government. It seeks to build on the entrepreneurial instincts of Ireland and its open and progressive economic atmosphere, and attraction to foreign inward investment’

      Checked site nothing on donors no accounts,Eoin anything on this rather shadowy and mysterious outfit ?

      An example is their recent ‘campaign’ regarding tobacco is their lack of disclosure that Japan Tobacco is a major donor,

      ‘The Hibernia Forum repeatedly opposed plain packaging, which removes branding from cigarettes packs. Dozens of Atlas thinktanks, including the Hibernia Forum, signed open letters to the World Health Organization opposing plain packaging in 2016 and 2018. In response to questions from the Guardian, Japan Tobacco disclosed it donated to the Hibernia Forum, though did not disclose which years‘

        1. Johnny

          Thank you Eoin,looking into Atlas and Koch for something-Atlas/Koch which supports/afflicted with this shadowy but oh so vocal “think tank” gave 2 million to Hibernia/Euro type groups last tax year reported.

  8. Johnny

    Hm-few hours research and another one bites the dust…

    “Redmond is also a founder and director the liberal economic think-tank, Hibernia Forum and his reasons for leaving Fine Gael are closely related to his support for Hibernia Forum. Redmond, a businessman in north Dublin, is fed up by the ‘nanny state tendencies’ of an increasingly centrist and ‘big State’ Fine Gael party, as well as the governing party’s lack of support for small business culture and prudent public spending.“

    Like seriously WTF Keith was just finished piece and he’s goes announces he’s not running / resigning !

    “So for these reasons I don’t really have the passion I had in 2014. I have decided therefore that I won’t be running again in the local elections in May. I’d like to thank @finegael for the opportunity to serve and @AlanFarrell in particular for his friendship through it all“

    Just issued from Keith !!
