It or something like it on clothing should be mandatory for all motor bikers and cyclists….

Good idea but no it should not be mandatory. Segregated cycle lanes should be.
It’s a great idea. Mandatory for cyclists, though? Nope.
If only motorists had something like this built in to their cars.
should come alreadyon the bags for those deliveroo lads & lassies
Whoever came up with this has wasted their time.
They should make indicators on cars madetory… because drivers can’t seem to use them. Segregated cycle lanes would actually make an improvement though.
2 near misses I have had within the past 2 hours in Dublin due to cars not using their indicators. Taxi on Pearse st and a nordy reg white beamer in James’s hospital. Dicks.
Yup. You always have to assume that drivers are going to be mickeys. It slows you down, but it’s safer.
Same thing applies to cyclists when you’re driving.
Actually, you just have to assume everyone is going to be a dick in all situations everywhere.
that’s really good life advice :)
Yeah, I hate people.
This is the Golden rule when riding a motorcycle, especially at junctions. Assume everyone is a dangerous idiot who has not paid attention at all to traffic lights and other types of vehicles. You also learn how important using indicators are on a motorcycle, because if you forget to use yours you could get killed. Car drivers are cocooned from reality on the road somewhat. I also drive cars, but learning it all on a motorcycle first makes you a safer driver.
News flash to all cyclists. Just look over your shoulder, if it’s safe to pull out – go.
Better still, catch the motorists eye and intimate with your head and give a nod. This has worked for me as a motorist and a cyclist for the last 30 years.
People seem to have lost the ability to ‘look around’. Motorists and cyclists.
Also, motorists on their phones should have their hands chopped off. Publicly. Once a month at a live event in Dublin castle.
That’s a great idea! I’d buy that for the winter cycling
They have had indicators for bikes for several years now – ones that fit to the frame or even the end of handlebars and do not require you to purchase another backpack. I would hope that the backpack has also been designed to be cyclist friendly and not cut off circulation to the arms while riding.
I would echo the ‘good idea but should not be mandatory (or is that compulsory?)’ and left up to the cyclist. Better segregated paths and, where possible, separate paths taking different route, similar to those in other countries.
Has anyone come up with a t-shirt that can project various emojis as controlled by the wearer yet? Whoever can perfect the technology to make clothes the equivalent of screens affordably will make enough money to buy the entire world.
*bored face*
*desperately pretending not to be hurt and confused face*
*I was only showing off face*
*laughing too loud and about to say something stupid to show i’m a good sport face*
*scrunched up trying to work out how you could convey that with your face, face*
*arch wink to indicate that it’s a problem that will be solved by a miracle of future technology rendering all physical social interactions obsolete face*
Brilliant.
Especially if it glitched and showed the wearer’s true feelings at an awkward time.
my face does that anyway
Ha ha! Me too
In my job I often wonder what would happen if my keyboard typed what I was really thinking rather than the diplomatic answer I was writing, I’d have been fired several times over…..
do you think that’s why people get so rude when anonymous, they are so unable in real life to say what they want,
I’d go as far to say it’s worse in Ireland where people are pretty indirect and apologetic in most cases, in my experience I hasten to add.
This is an old idea, well it is in the UK, and they are widely available for a lot less than the equivalent of 90 euro.
Sorry, I know, but I couldn’t just let it go without saying something….
They need these for BMW cars.
It’s a start. Next I hope will be mandatory electronic signalling, rules of the road exam, testing and licensing. If successful with cyclists, they might roll out the scheme for taxi-drivers.
Motorbikes already have indicators.
Ah here, I make an innocent comment and Bodger picks it out in bold just to stir poo.
I think they are a great idea, and yes they have been around a while but anything that makes the roads safer for both cyclists AND motorists should be encouraged.
1. The cyclist in the first photo would greatly improve his safety by removing his ear plugs.
2. This device is a bad idea as only traffic behind the cyclist will see the intended direction – while pedestrians crossing at junctions or other oncoming traffic will not know the intended direction of the cyclist.
