I would have described myself as a fan of the SocDems until half the party threatened to resign over merely investigating Ellie Kisyombe’s lies*, Gary Gannon being the ringleader of that faction within the party. That showed that they don’t care about facts, that identity politics matter more. Which is incredibly dangerous and disappointing.
I won’t be giving him a #1, or even a lower preference vote, for that reason. And that seems to be the case with a LOT of left leaning voters I’ve talked to – traditional Labour voters who’re now somewhat homeless. Ciaran Cuffe for the Greens seems to be hoovering them up because of the Kisyombe debacle.
The SocDems will do well to even get their election deposit back at this stage, given Gannon is only polling at 4% – a large part of which I’d put down to the above. Hes polling significantly below what the SocDems would do in Dublin otherwise. If they’d run a better candidate I think they’d be over 10%.

Yeah, that really hit them hard.
I cringe when I see those beard silhouette posters for him around. You can try and be as cooler and more hip than anyone else, but you need substance first.
It’s a shame, as I had high hopes for the party earlier on.
‘Lost voters’ will define this election. Greens really seeing their opportunity.
Dear god no. Please not the Greens. They fupped up right and proper.. everyone is entitled to a second chance but they are still in denial and are worth nothing till they sort that out. It’s a miserable field.
It’s their turn again it seems, Labour will be up shortly. SocDems are a disgrace…social justice panderers. Both them and the Greens are importing their ideas from the US and imposing them on the Irish, and presuming that Ireland has the same social challenges. Talk about lazy, inarticulate, crap encased in cultural marxism. SF are a halfway house, Europhile-nationalist party, if that isn’t a contradiction. They have no love for Ireland, our history, our culture, our values and seeing those as being different from everyone else’s. So we end up voting FF/FG. Makes you wonder if they are all on some overlord’s payroll.
It’s time to vote independent.

The Ellie Kisyombe issue really drove home the point that the SDs are more interested in grandstanding about identity issues than coming up with their policies to fix things – all mouth and no trousers.

I hope Gary isn’t put off politics by the internals in the Soc Dems
And what is looking (to me anyway) like a poor showing on Saturday morning
I had hopes for him
But with Higgins and Daly and White entering the race there isn’t much headwind left for Gary
I think he’s got great potential
Maybe not in the Soc Dems mind

I think there is a seat warm for Gary in Labour during the two parties’ inevitable merge, which will happen the next time Labour has a good election.
I’ll be giving Gary a preference, but it’ll be despite this pound shop Emmet Kirwin vid, which was cringey enough last time, and deffo didn’t need a watery remake. And the beard posters are cult of the personality mortifications.
It’s a strange message.
The “real” people (actors) who voice their concerns break Gannons monologue, but he doesn’t directly answer them. Rather he looks at them, pauses and continues his list of platitudes and rhetoric. Only at the end does he ask yer wan from Fair City if she’s alright.
She’s not alright Gary.

Good shout, but without Ogle I think – he has shot his shot, I don’t see him finding any sort of a bigger bandwagon than ‘Home Sweet Home’ to propel himself to a Dáil seat.

But Ogle definitely is a voice that can lead and be a genuine advocate for a National Building programme
I know myself who I would put into a room to develop a housing strategy, and he is one of them.
Brendan Ogle is interested in Brendan Ogle. He doesn’t give a flip about the housing crisis beyond its usefulness as a vehicle for his personal advancement.

Labour have zero authenticity – betraying core values for ministerial pensions. JobBridge happened under Labour – try saying that out loud a couple of times. Don’t get me started on the fringe parties pandering soft fascism dressed up in lofty liberal lefty values that cannot be delivered on – not on earth at least. These parties are a motley crew but they have one thing in common; have no love for Ireland, our history, our culture, our values or seeing those as being different from everyone else’s – no sense of place, nothing to commemorate, nothing to celebrate, just a vision of a grey homogeneous future. So we end up voting FF/FG who are basically two boxes of cheap St Patrick’s Day badges that we are sometimes sentimental about – two lousy products made by the same manufacturer. Makes you wonder if they are all on some overlord’s payroll.
If we’ve learned anything, it’s time to vote independent….if we want a better EU and a better Ireland. We shouldn’t have needed to squander EUR64bn to learn this. We’ve a deep history of corruption and mismanagement here. And we’ve learned nothing…and the young emigrate, go figure.
