UPDATE:

Ms Daly is now on 65,683 votes following the distribution of the votes of the Social Democrats’ Gary Gannons following his elimination on the 14th count.

Mr Andrews is on 63,177 and outgoing MEP Lynn Boylan of Sinn Féin is in fifth place on 51,632.

Earlier…

European Election Count Centre, RDS, Dublin 4.

A recount is underway in the Dublin constituency to decide whether Independents4Change’s Clare Daly (above left) or Fianna Fáil’s Barry Andrews (above right) will automatically take the third seat (after Ciaran Cuffe and Frances Fitzgerald) and who – under Brussels regulations – will only be allowed take their seat once Britain formally withdraws from the EU.

More as we get it.

Are we going to overlook the thicko junior minister John Paul (naturally!) Phelan who said on Morning Ireland that Lynn’s votes would not be transferred and then, after 11am, he called RTE back and was put straight on to the Sean O’Rourke show to do a complete u-turn and said he was wrong earlier and having considered the matter, Lynn’s votes would be transferred before the final podium could be decided.

This is the €130k a year (basic) thicko who was responsible for the legislation for how the counts would work for this special European Parliament elections.

Daly in third following Gannon’s votes. Now it’s FF that will want Boylan’s votes counted.

        Maybe
But a fair schelp of Lynn’s votes will be traditional old school eFFers

        1. ReproBertie

FF were still insisting on the News at One that Boylan’s votes should not be distributed.

          1. Vanessa the Holy Face of Frilly Keane

            Fair enough
Their lads on site would have had a better view of the ballots as they were being tallied and would be keeping an eye on where Barry’s preference votes would be coming from

In my experience tho’ the eFF’ers do very well out’ve the distribution of Shinners votes

            Clare is barely 2,500 up

          2. Vanessa the Holy Face of Frilly Keane

Came in to post just that

            Hon’ de’ Mná

Daly 87,770 – quota well exceeded

Andrews 68,952 – he didn’t even reach the quota

Be gas if Mick comes in ahead of Billie now as well
            FF will be morto

          3. ReproBertie

Great result for Daly. Should it come to it I’d expect Mick to get a fair bit from Adrienne Wallace. It’s where Nunan, Doyle and Clune’s transfers go that’ll make it really interesting.

          4. Vanessa the Holy Face of Frilly Keane

Malcolm Byrne with split daycently between Mick and Billie

            FF votes and Wexican votes
Although Billie’ll get a savage chunk of Deirdre Clunes

Garry Gannon’s transfers have put Daly ahead and cleared the whole thing up (Andrews/FF know they can’t reasonably overtake Daly now)

    Cripes,

Gannon’s transfers result in Daly – 65,683, Andrews – 63,177 so Clare is #3 without Lynn’s transfers (which are expected to be overwhelmingly Daly, though that’s not stopping Andrews doing a u-turn to demand they be counted nonetheless).

So, SF Lynn Boylan is out, 11,500 votes behind Barry Andrews, okay, Barry Andrews was 3.3% ahead in first votes 11,000 rather than 2% (6,000) in the exit poll, but just look at all the transfers and particularly the Soc Dem transfers, 4,928 to SF and 3,558 to Barry Andrews. Just shows how far SF has slipped in its appeal, and also, how far FF has been rehabilitated.

SF needs a good look at itself. Just heard Mary Lou in the Dail, she sounds crestfallen.

the shinners have been fighting the DUPs’ ignorance and intransigence with intransigence and ignorance and where the DUP’s approach goes down well with their supporters, the shinners aping of that does not go down well with the general public.

      1. Scundered

SF sell themselves as wanting a United Ireland yet cause more and more division over issues that few people think is a priority, it’s crazy to think things were better when Martin and Ian were the two main names in the north, as they lived in times when they were all physically shooting and bombing each other, yet now we have stalemate. Both DUP and SF need to be consigned to history, and let some adults take charge.

  5. ReproBertie

It seems that FF have accepted that Daly finishes 3rd. No running to courts required.

    1. Vanessa the Holy Face of Frilly Keane

      Maybe not
Lynn Boylan’s are being distributed now

Cop on would say they’ll heave Clare even further
But I wouldn’t be too sure

      As mentioned above
eFFers also do well out’ve the Shinners distributions

  6. Vanessa the Holy Face of Frilly Keane

    From Nemo
Mick is closing in on Billy
Having hovered up transfers at an incredible rate
One distribution saw a 5:1 differential
Although I’d expect that slow down when the main party candidates start to get eliminated
Billy will do really well from Deirdre Clunes
Less than a 1000 votes between them now as they enter the 10th count

Carthy and The Rose are starting to put daylight between themselves and Casey

  7. Optimus Grime

Does Clare really want them to free Assange? Like I mean really?? Or is she just a big hipster?

    1. Cian

      Are they that wrong?
If we look at the April one for the LE:
      Who April Actual
      FG 27 25.2%
      FF 20 26.9%
      SF 15 9.5%
      Ind 21 22.4%
      Lab 5 5.7%
      SPBP 1 1.9%
      SD 1 2.3%
      Gn 5 5.6%

They got FG, Independents, Labour, S-PBP, SocDem and Greens all about right.

The biggest problem I see is that 70%-75% of the people said they would vote… and the turnout was only 50%.

the European elections were wrong – but they are harder to predict.
