Donald Tusk, president of the European Council with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in Dublin last March
The backstop is an insurance to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland unless and until an alternative is found. Those against the backstop and not proposing realistic alternatives in fact support reestablishing a border. Even if they do not admit it.

Hmm.
Brexit: Boris Johnson says ‘anti-democratic’ backstop must be scrapped (BBC)
Last night: Contact
Update:
UK government source hits back at Tusk and Commission
“If the Commission only wants to offer the same failed backstop that will not pass then they are essentially choosing to risk either a hard border in NI or a border in the Irish Sea. That is not what anyone wants.”

That’s YOU, Bojo.
The de facto leader of the EU is calling BoJo a liar because BoJo is (1) against the backstop and (2) not proposing a realistic alternative BUT (3) BoJo said last night “this Government will not put in place infrastructure, checks or controls at the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland”.
Mind you, has anyone sussed the fact yet that the UK government has reneged on its commitment in Article 49 of the December 2017 Joint Declaration? Boris told the EU this for the first time last night.
You have Eoin..!!!
Journalist of the year, and mammy’s best little soldier……eoin!!!!!!
Britain’s unelected teaboy Taoiseach wants to replace the backstop with a pledge. This is the man who freely admitted they signed up to the Backstop with the intention of just ignoring it. The man’s a confirmed liar and he must think the Irish government are as stupid as his party if he believes for one second that they’d take his word on anything.
is he a liar, or does he just not know the difference between ‘compromise’ and ‘utterly capitulate’?
