“There’s A Lot Of Trust In Leo Varadkar Within Fine Gael”

at

Fine Gael’s Simon Coveney and Leo Varadkar during their leadership contest in May 2017

This morning.

Fine Gael TD Simon Coveney spoke to Seán O’Rourke on RTÉ Radio One.

During their discussion, Mr O’Rourke asked Mr Coveney about Leo Varadkar’s leadership of Fine Gael following the general election result.

They had this exchange:

Seán O’Rourke: “What about the Fine Gael leadership at this time?”

Simon Coveney: “I don’t think there’s any, ehhm, moves, ehhh, ehh, to change leader in Fine Gael. I don’t think there’s any appetite for that. There’s a lot of trust in Leo Varadkar within Fine Gael. He’s only been a leader for two-and-a-half years or so.

“I think he’s only getting started. So I think Fine Gael will look at this election result, we’ll try to learn from it.

“Clearly we’ve made some mistakes and the public expressed an anger about that during this election and we need to be both realistic and humble in relation to the mistakes that we’ve made and learn from them and come back and respond to that as a political party that is, you know, deeply committed to everybody in Irish society, not just the people who vote for us but the people who voted for Sinn Féin and others as well. And we’ll do that.”

    “Clearly we’ve made some mistakes….”

amazing to me how educated high flying people sometimes are as dumb as..

    HINT:

I’m curious as to how Coveney generally gets a free pass. It’s like he’s some reasonable acceptable face of FG. He’s as bad and as incompetent as any of them.

Don’t forget he was Murphy’s predecessor as Housing and Environment Minister and responsible for the Rebuilding Ireland strategy. How’d he do?

Remember his commitments on homelessness? How’d he do?

      He’s a spoofer.

they are entirely incapable of making the changes needed. it would need an entire change of ideology and ways of working, everything, everything would need to change. and they cant do that. theyre only saying this as a way to try appeal to “voters” as they so affectionately call us. as for who their leader is .. thats as relevant to most people as it is who leads Labour. we don’t want any of you so go play silly buggers by yourself and allow the adults take charge.

How can you trust the spin (lies to you and me) particularly around housing and homeless stats that FG put out? The man’s deluded That’s bubble politics

I’m going to nail my colours to the mast right now –

    its a FFG+Green govt

for me anyway the available data supports it
plus the likes of these nice but slightly dim vanilla noises…I had a history teacher once who knew tons about WW2…he taught us to look around the back of events which led to a regime installation, one of the secret tricks is to create an “atmosphere of acceptance”

anyway I have figured out thing one thing for sure….with that monologue above he isn’t actually talking to people like me in the first place

There are two problems with this:
        1. It wasn’t a “large” vote: there was a 7 point drop in FF & FG support.
        2. Because “change” is reactive – I want something different – we don’t know exactly what people actually want?
        – Do they want SF? A 10-point swing to SF (70% increase in TDs)
        – or Greens? a 4-point swing to the greens (a massive 300% increase in TDs)

Don’t take it personally, both him and FFG collectively, have zero interest in talking to you,me or anybody else who they just see as serfs. Always been that way.

I would agree with your analysis that it’s going to be a FFG/GP government after all the shape throwing and double talk is done, but they’ll string it out for a while yet and then come to our rescue “in the national interest” .

They’re going to keep him exactly where he is
And make him take all the responsibility and blame for failed Ministers – Regina, Eoghan, Simon H, Charlie F etc
Everything bad and rotten with FG, everything they did wrong and didn’t get right, having their name all over the worst Government in the history of the State, and their disastrous election will be all on Leo
and as soon as the swing haha

He’s like a old school septic tank at this stage that they won’t maintain, but they’ll keep it on site and keep using while they can get away with it- and when the time comes they’ll just replace it altogether
