Outlets won’t let you use your own cup. It’s a hygiene thing at the moment so we all have to accept disposables.

The gorgeous ‘ceann rua’ in the fifth pic. can be seen in the second one with a tall blonde companion . She must have told the photographer to “go away and leave me alone” , or two words to that effect .

While I agree she is attractive, I cannot see how you get your second statement. The first pic she is further away (corrected for cup), so likely the lower one is the second shot. In it, she is smiling and seems to have a sunny disposition (pardon the almost pun). No indication of discontent.

Ah, sorry I did not get that!
Maybe she just was shy? Maybe they had already parted ways?

My two cents: No real history of them, and our air quality has not required them much. This has been one driver in many asian cities.

Also, I can tell you from personal experience that initially they were very difficult to obtain, and a friend told me he had stopped looking by the time they did become more available. Now, a few locals are making them up and selling reusable non-medical masks in the local shops. Some very interesting designs, too.

That being said, they are much more prevalent in shops around my town now, though not many outdoors. I think we will likely see them more often from now, though, especially in normal flu seasons

yes, i heard they were very hard to find. Many telling me the prices on masks and hand sanitizer shot up too which is very cynical. All my patients would ask me if i had spare masks, i gave what I could without leaving myself exposed. But found it very frustrating that they were so hard to find, and so expensive. One lady told me basic EY surgical masks are €3 a pop in her pharmacy. Pure opportunism. The government should’ve sent masks to every household in the country. Theyre cheap as chips. They could’ve done it if they didnt waste millions of euro flying in dodgy wish dot com PPE.

Glad to know you’ve moved on from leaving yourself exposed to patients, Dr…

Making a mistake and running with the herds might have given you some room to backtrack under the mask slipped amnesty

“Some reason why masks are just not catching on in Ireland?”

Masked men are part of our heritage.

      I blame globalization.

    1. Tarfton Clax

Seriously? Are you twelve? If people, especially staff want to wear something they feel helps them why not let them at it? Do you refuse to enter shops where staff wear a kuffiyeh or Bisht because you are not a Muslim? Or a shop where people wear a crucifix around their necks?

Interesting to see that over 1000 Irish academics and scientists have written an open letter to the government calling on them to revisit their stance on the lockdown – that it should continue until the virus has been completely eradicated.

Heartening (for me at least) to see that Irishman Ivor Cummins is a lockdown sceptic. Though a biochemical engineer by trade, he caused a bit of stir in the medical world with his previous research on the connection between a high carb diet, insulin resistance and heart disease.

This is his take on the open letter: (thread)
“The mass delusion of Ireland’s academics on #coronavirus dynamics – apparently still clueless in entrenched group-think
    – when the seasonal respiratory dynamic has passed on its natural cycle, mostly by itself (community immunity etc)
    A pitiful sight
    – an embarrassment indeed”

Will be interesting how well (or not) the letter ages as this thing pans out.

    Ivor Cummins?

Man, every mail from him must so straight into the SPAM folder. Any wonder he has no friends and is bitter.

    1. f_lawless

I’m intrigued, tell me more..Why is he sending you mails? Why do you think he has no friends and is bitter? Do you know that sometimes we project misgivings about our own lives onto others as a type of psychological coping mechanism? Not saying it’s the case with you; for all I know , you know the guy personally.

But Cummins’ research challenged orthodox thinking on cardiovascular disease and insulin resistance among the medical establishment and his research was taken very seriously- so much so, in recent years he presented his insights at annual conferences for both the British Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation and also the Irish National Institute of Preventative Cardiology. He knows a thing or two about groupthink.
