Van Morrison
This afternoon.
Covid-critic Van Morrison has confirmed a series of reluctantly socially-distanced shows at Belfast’s Europa Hotel on October 29, 30 and 31.
Bernice Burnside writes:
Tickets will be sold in pairs or by tables of eight and the maximum number at each show will be 184 as part of measures to adhere to social distancing legislation in Northern Ireland.
The performance will be preceded by a drinks reception and two-course supper showcasing the best of Northern Ireland produce.
Ticket prices for the first two rows are available at £250 per person, or £2,000 for a table of eight, and all other tickets are £150 per person or £1,200 per table of eight…
Blimey.
Announcing a series of similar gigs in the UK last week, the singer said: “This is not a sign of compliance or acceptance of the current state of affairs, this is to get my band up and running and out of the doldrums.”
He called on fellow artists to “Come forward, stand up, fight the pseudo-science and speak up.”

“Pseudo-science” says the lad who left secondary school with no qualifications.
He got his qualifications from the University of Life, man.
the price of an EP ticket to go see Van Morrison?
jasus, you’d really have to be into it I guess
Two grand a table? You’d wonder would the greedy lump be charging less if he could get a full house
‘Not a sign of compliance or acceptance of the current state of affairs’
What a hack
He’s 75 and clearly hasn’t enjoyed performing live for at least 20 years. Why does he bother?
He can’t here you over the sound of cash registers cha ching-ing
Money
His Nickname is the odious toad
A genius of a musician a great icon of song writing but an absolutely obnoxious individual I actually met socially years ago
He’d make more money if the event had free entry but they charged €5,000 to get out. I’ve had the misfortune to see him live 3 times (supporting other acts). Each was so dreary, mice were throwing themselves on mousetraps.
I don’t think he needs the cash, but that supper looks a right good slap up .. and, of course, Mr. Van loves a good slap or two.
Underrated comment of the year :)
Thanks for the LOLs Gah!
“Did ya get fleeced” would also work!
Corporate entertainment.
But do the numbers whining and dining as van weaves his magic exceed the numbers Allowed when you take into account the size of venue staff roadies musicians security etc
Maybe Northern Ireland’s very own golf society outing
Have they divided the venue into separate rooms with Perspex and ensured the singing will not be so loud that vans spittle goes airborne through the air conditioning
Has he been tested and properly quarantined
