Protest in Berlin against Covid-19 restrictions; German Health Minister Jens Spahn

This morning.

Germany will not need another national lockdown over the winter, says the country’s Health Minister Jens Spahn who also admitted Berlin’s lockdown was “too harsh”.

Via irish Times:

Germany should not have closed shops and hairdressers in the coronavirus lockdown, its health minister has admitted, triggering demands for an inquiry into decisions taken early on in the pandemic.

Federal health minister Jens Spahn’s admission that Berlin’s lockdown was too harsh has surprised many and infuriated those hit hardest by the shutdown.

The remarks will be grist to the mill of the 40,000 people who demonstrated in Berlin at the weekend against ongoing Covid-19 restrictions as overblown.

“With the knowledge of today, I can tell you no hairdressers would have to close and no shops,” he said. “That will not happen again. We won’t need visitor bans in care homes, either.”

Via The Guardian:

Victoria police is facing criticism for its arrest of a 28-year-old pregnant woman in her Ballarat home on Wednesday over a Facebook post, with the Victorian Bar labelling it “disproportionate”.

The criticism comes after the assistant police commissioner, Luke Cornelius, defended the arrest, saying officers acted “reasonably”.

Cornelius admitted that the arrest of a pregnant woman made for “terrible optics”, but defended the heavy-handed approach, warning that hundreds of officers would be deployed to make arrests on the weekend.

So I asked my doctor when did he think CoVid-19 would be gone.

He said he didn’t know because he wasn’t a politician.

I can’t believe someone as knowledgeable as you would stoop to receiving medical advice from a mere “Doctor”, what with all your “research”!

What in God’s name is going on in Australia? The are behaving like it is a full on police state.

And it is not just this video, there is others doing the rounds too. One of a young girl being violently crushed against a wall for not wearing a mask- turned out she had a valid reason but they never even checked.

      Yeah, it’s very worring.

I’m not a conspiracy buff, but when I see things like this I wonder is there more to this thing.

      :-(

I am in lockdown Melbourne. The Vic Police got it wrong with that pregnant woman. Aussies on Twitter have pointed out that celebrties have been far more effective at spreading disharmony than she was. They may not have been organising a protest, though. Aussie police can be heavy handed – I guess you know that. We are in a severe lockdown – 5km limit, curfew, 1hr exercise, etc. Unfortunately, a lot of people are idiots and have not taken the virus or the lockdown seriously. So, the result is a prolonged lockdown and the police enforcing the laws, diligently.

      1. SOQ

And has that had much impact on hospitalisations or fatality figures?

Where are you in the flu season btw? I think I asked you that before sorry.

We are really in our first wave. The numbers are similar to Ireland’s first wave – 26K cases and close to 700 deaths (I know a lot fewer than Ireland). Most are in Melbourne. The virus has wreaked havoc in Aged Care – inexcusable, when we had months to prepare, after what happened in Europe.

          This has some interesting data:
          https://covid-19-au.com/

Flu – deaths are way down. They reckon it hasn’t made it here, due to the closed international borders. Even Aussies are finding it hard to make it home. Due to the current Melbourne outbreak having escaped quarantine, they have reduced the incoming numbers to Australia. Melbourne isn’t taking any. btw, most state borders are closed, which is like closing county borders in Ireland, causes a lot of hardship for the locals.

My best friend was told his flu jab will happen in October not now

I do believe face masks are essential but you cannot turn the state into something like 1984

We live in a society that we live by consent

The government over stepped its power today by not only lying that their new food outlets by law having to keep records of what each customer ate for the whole of September stating this was in conjunction with the restaurants association

At 6pm the restuarant association of Ireland made a statement that they were unaware of this latest move

…one thing is certain…no disease outbreak will be as carefully analysed as this one…I’m sure it will be traced back to the origin and a chronology will show those actions which were helpful, unhelpful, no benefit and downright dangerous…

There is a move to stop daily figures being released by the HSE quoting people are getting scared

How the HSE would love the wraps being put on this as this now becomes the war in Oceania
Which was fiction penned by George Orwell in the book 1984

As scary it is the people must know the truth

Sadly George Orwell’s 1984 is beginning to become reality if this is true

This joke of a government must go

Berlin never needed a severe lockdown like South Germany or West Germany. That’s where the outbreak was, in huge numbers. Berlin still has some of the lowest cases and death numbers in Germany. Restaurants, bars have all been open here for 2 or 3 months now, mainly with outdoors service, no crazy spikes occurred. The colder weather could change everything though. Maybe the neo nazis won’t be in the mood to raid the Gov’t buildings.

    1. SOQ

What is the demographics of Berlin? Would it not tend to be more younger people therefore less in the high risk groups?

      1. Junkface

Yes Berlin has a young workforce on average, I’d say between 23 and 35 in many of the start ups and in the big brand companies, but more importantly the wages and cost of living are not as high as in the south like in Munich, and the wealthiest parts of Germany also travel abroad the most, and therefore had the biggest spikes in Spring. Most of the Eastern half of Germany didn’t have high case numbers at all, they don’t travel as much.

        1. SOQ

Well this thing is very age specific so the younger the demographics, the less serious illness or fatalities. It is an important point because the Lombardy region of Italy had a high number of elderly.

Do you know what the demographics of East Germany would be like?

          1. Cian

Yes, According to the CIA World Fact book for Population % 65 years and over (2020 estimations):
            – Italy is 22.08%
            – Germany is 22.99%
            – Sweden is 20.59%
