Solicitor (I think) that advertises their services in buying/selling pub licences. Big spread in the SBP a few weeks ago too

Rural village pubs are doomed, they have widely disappeared GB where once they were also the centre of the community. This is the future.
Personally I would rather have some cans at home.

The artificial value of a licence, giving a fifty (to well over a hundred, in the past) grand incentive to close up shop, is part of why they’re doomed though.

Can’t wait for another 50 sh**te mega-bars in Irish cities/towns when all the licence are sold.

I like a pub (rural or urban), hate ‘bars’. I’d also like the option of a non-starf*cks cafe open after 7PM in an Irish town or city…

Rhetorical Question time… is this all too much to ask for??? Only other slightly acceptable answer to this question is – “that would be an ecumenical matter”

Same day as this lads ad in the SBP, they had an article that mentioned that a bunch of XL Stop & Shop owners were vulturing over licences.

New off licences, mostly inside convenience stores, petrol stations and supermarkets, have consumed far more licence than new city pubs ever have. Dublin still has less pubs – a LOT less pubs – than 40 years ago

True – don’t we all love a good off-licence especially when they insist on mentioning the “fine wines” they stock. You’d love them to be honest – “We get you drunker, cheaper – without the trouble of remembering the taste of what you’ve supped”

The old rural offo thing of seeing “WINES ALES SPIRITS” written outside and they sold one ale – Smithwicks.

If only McDowell had not been scuppered by the vintners all those years ago, we’d all be sitting in well-apportioned cafĂ© bars that stay open til all hours ..
