In challenging the nonsensical and illogical government led Covid narratives, BS are actually setting themselves apart as the only true journalists left in this country. With these small but regular posts on the subject they stand head and shoulders above the pathetic moronic PR men who call themselves journalists in the Irish media. The Irish media are not malevolent. They’re just imbeciles.

      1. Nigel

I’m not sure adding the word ‘fight!’ to other people’s tweets about government policies counts as journalism, tbh.

More honest – even if it’s heavy-handed, Reporting really
        Than actual Journalism
Which would require some element of fact checking

Like tis hardly big scoops and breaking stories
        So calm down there E’mattie

Name one other media source in Ireland posting anything online that goes against this hysteria driven narrative and climate of fear? A simple post here highlighting the hypocrisy of those who themselves have all been caught breaching the very guidelines they publicly call for and endorse and their current fearmongering over this “new scary Mutant strain” has more journalistic quality in it than all of today’s mainstream reporting. One shouldn’t judge quality by quantity. It’s a simple but effective message. It really says more about the dire state of the general media that a site such as this, which doesn’t make claims of journalistic grandeur, stands above them so very easily.

            Due respect
I don’t need to be told what a unique platform Broadsheet is Mattie
Nor a lesson on its Journalistic bravery
Or it’s standout reporting on any number of stories
Or even the range of subjects and contributors

I think it’s fair to say I’ve been around here a bit longer than you
Fair enough if you think you know more about this gaff that I do – that wouldn’t surprise
But I reckon I’ve more miles on the Broadsheet Clock
Definitely have the scars and dents

            Have at it

          2. E'Matty

@Frilly “I don’t need to be told what a unique platform Broadsheet is Mattie

I don’t see any argument. Both of us appear to agree BS constitutes journalism. I’m merely adding a claim of sole Irish media outlet posting anything challenging the Covid hysteria narrative all other Irish media have adopted as gospel. For that, it should be commended.

With the recent vaccine announcements and arrival of the Christmas season, people were beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel. Can’t have that now, not frightening enough. Cue unsubstantiated claims from Britain of new “Mutant strain” being far more infectious, the term mutant being instantly adopted by our hysteria fuelling media to scare the populace back into their box. Crush people’s new found hope by destroying the Christmas plans of many.

The populace needs to be suitably desperate so by the time these suspect vaccines arrive (suspect as we don’t know if they prevent infection or transmission, or if they cause medium to long term adverse reactions, stage 3 testing is ongoing with the populace being the guinea pigs), the people will in their desperation to ‘return to normal’ (never going to happen) be extremely compliant and willing to receive the vaccine. Any holding back or expressing reservations will continue to be bullied and pilloried until they too submit. That the government couldn’t even delay this lockdown by a few hours to allow families enjoy a Christmas eve meal in a restaurant or a few pints in the pub together shows the vindictive nature of these scumbags. This lockdown and it’s timing are designed for maximum misery and desperation. But, one can only feel so sorry for the people, as they take this lying down. As Cuomo said “there’s people who are desperate to return to normal. Let me be clear on this, we are NEVER returning to normal”…and we move further away from normal by the day as we continue to normalise the so called “new normal”.

@Bitnboxy. There there now. It’s ok pet. Nobody expects someone like you to understand these matters. Leave them to us adults and just enjoy your crayons. Santa is coming soon and don’t worry, the wonderful Dr Fauci says he’s personally vaccinated Santa and all his reindeers so you don’t have to worry about them getting sick from this scary new mutant virus.

    1. SOQ

Spot on Matty- is imposing restrictions on Christmas eve as opposed to Christmas night going to make any difference- really?

It is a deliberate attempt to sabotage the single most important family event of the year- in a year where it was never so badly needed.

          1. SOQ

So Nigel is now speaking for people who live alone too- that is a vey long list by now eh?

There will be a lot more people spending Christmas day alone because of those restrictions BB- your callous comment is contemptible.

          2. E'Matty

@SOQ “So Nigel is now speaking for people who live alone too”. To be fair, he may have some standing in that department. He strikes me as the sort who may have been quite socially distanced before it became fashionable.

the refusal to implement any sort of meaningful quarantine since this pandemic started is the reason we’re not having our “meaningful” Christmas. and yes that would have included meet and greets at the border to all slipping in through the north.

living with the virus has been an abject failure because if this and the only way out now is mass vacination. get as much of into the nation’s veins as quickly as possible

    1. Cian (the other one)

Do we have enough Gardaí (or the capacity to massively increase Garda numbers) to actually implement meaningful quarantine?

Pretty sure the issue here is that Ireland has been run (with the absolute agreement of most of its population) on a “Ara sure, it’s grand” basis since the foundation of the state. Moving to a German or Swiss style “rules are rules” system is maybe worthwhile – especially in the context of a pandemic. But rebuilding the institutions and culture of the state is something that’s also probably not possible during the same pandemic. It’s also a sufficiently large cultural and institutional change that you couldn’t do it just for the pandemic.

Also, fundamentally, well implemented quarantine would help – but it’d not stop the problems, just buy us a few weeks. We can’t cut off lorry based supply chains, nor essential workers moving between the UK & Ireland, because we rely on UK based workers for far too many things, and in the border counties (especially Donegal), we’ve used NI to provide basic services since the GFA. Maybe that’s worth the investment, but I don’t think the answer to that is obvious either way.

        1. Cian (the other one)

To pick a specific point, you said you wanted us checking roads to the north. There are (according to a quick google search) 270 such roads. A checkpoint on a road requires two Gardaí, which means 336 Garda/hours/week. Assuming a Garda works 40 hours, that’s ~9 Gardaí/road, which works out at a wonderful 2430 Gardaí, for the North *alone*. That’s about 15% of the force.

I dont understand all the clattering bin lid bickering over all of this. Are peoples egos so big these days? Just close the bloody airports…which should’ve been done in March? Why is this being made so difficult! The division, the finger pointing, the panic.. humans may be smart but daaaaaaaaamn we’re easily manipulated. I present comment section as evidence your honour. Now I’m off for my 5km run while injecting quinoa into my eyeballs cos it makes me a more wholesome person. Oh and cats…gosh aren’t they dreadful hehe
Happy Christmas ya filthy animals! Sign off and enjoy your time.

        1. Boj

I’m a simple soul using simple logic which has worked very well for me so far in life. If an infectious disease is being imported via various channels and if citizens are soooooo important surely it makes blinding sense to shut those various channels down. Simple, no?

OR … leave the airports open and hey presto…we’re back in this dimension!

    2. johnnythree

@diddy Eh, right. 70% effectiveness , just over 50% of people will take it, not enough doses ordered and no staff to apply it. How do you think thats gonna pan out?

  3. bisted

…despite golfgate, Montrosegate, Phoenix Park Gatelodge…despite the legion of disingenuous quacks and the Broadsheet battalion of ratlickers…the vast majority of us are unwavering in our solidarity and we are winning…we can see light as we knew we would and science has triumphed…not there yet but getting there…

    1. E'Matty

Cuomo “There are people who are desperate to return to normal. Let me be very clear, we are NEVER returning to normal”.

Dr. Anthony Fauci recommends people still wear masks and practice social distancing even after getting the vaccine, he told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Bisted “not there yet but getting there…” where’s there? Where do you think you’re going? Back to normal is it? Lol. Just be a good boy and do what you’re told like the good boot licker you are.

        1. SOQ

If you think we are going back to normal after this then maybe it is you who needs to have a good look in the mirror.

          1. Nigel

One big lesson is that from now on all zombie movies have to have groups of people who go around telling others they’re hytserical idiots for being afraid of zombies, that the best way to deal with the zombie plague is for lots of people to get bitten by zombies so we devlop herd zombie immunity and look at how in Sweden zombies and humans are living openly together in peace and harmony even if, yes, after a short while there aren’t any humans left in Sweden, they probably went on holiday or something.

      1. bisted

…ah Mattie…it’s yourself…which one are you again…the rhapsody man…no, the great reset man…some kind of snake oil salesman anyway…where did you spring from…we are not worthy…at least, that’s what you keep telling us…

        1. E'Matty

Oh, why the Thinking Man of course. And you? The Unthinking Herd Animal. Will you be wearing your mask at the Christmas table this year bisted? Of course you will, lol.

      2. Micko

Ah lads. Things will go back to normal.

No one wants to live like this really.

There are the zealots who love it for whatever reason, but the majority of people just want to get back to normal. (I heard a DJ on the radio the other day saying she loved the mask as she “didn’t have to acknowledge anyone in the shops”. FFS what a tool of a human being)

It’s just groupthink and no one wants to be the one to say that in reality the vast, overwhelming majority of people who are dying are the very old or very sick. Sad but true.

There’s also the element of workers who don’t want to go back to the normal 40hrs a week etc.

We’ll get there. To think anything else would get ya very down.

Have a nice Chrimbo lads and forget about all this pants.

        Enjoy! ;-)

Switch off RTE, BBC and ITV. All they do is create irrational fear in the minds of the general public. Honestly, I’ve heard so much conflicting ‘news’ about this virus at this stage I’m not even sure it actually exists anymore. I’m starting to think it’s just a regular, yearly flu variant. I am, however, certain that some expert/authoritative sources are lying….not mistaken, but outright lying. They can’t all be right. And each is as qualified as the other.
