New figures also show that 89% of adults aged 18 years and older are now fully vaccinated.

Of those aged 12 years and older, 82% are fully vaccinated.

chair of the High Level Task Force on Vaccination, Professor Brian MacCraith, said that 6.87 million vaccines have been administered.

At this stage, 92.1% of adults have received at least one dose.

And yet..

Ireland has recorded the highest 14-day incidence of Covid-19 in Europe, according to data released by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

The country’s 14-day incidence rate is 504.11 cases per 100,000 people….

You’re not a scientist.

You wouldn’t understand.

There is no contradiction here. 1. Delta variant is more transmissible and is spreading rapidly primarily amongst young unvaccinated people. 2. Nobody ever said the vaccine was 100% effective & it is widely also accepted that the efficacy diminishes over time. That does not render it useless as not only does it reduce likelihood of contraction it also reduces severity of symptoms.

I have been an occasional visitor and rare comment or on this site, but I have had enough of this nonsense now. Im out.

        1. SOQ

Absolute pharma shilling- I especially like the question- Will we need COVID-19 vaccines every several months?

          We don’t know.

          You do bloody know.

    1. E'Matty

They can blame anything on a new variant and the unvaccinated and you’d swallow it whole without question. If all the vaccinated start suffering ADE this autumn/winter, which results in cytokine storms, exactly as Covid19 does, they’ll just tell you it’s the result of a new variant enabled by the unvaccinated and you’ll turn into rabid, dogs seeking the unvaccinated be penalised and detained, for “the public good”.

“ The masses have never thirsted after truth. They turn aside from evidence that is not to their taste, preferring to deify error, if error seduce them.

Whoever can supply them with illusions is easily their master; whoever attempts to destroy their illusions is always their victim. An individual in a crowd is a grain of sand amid other grains of sand, which the wind stirs up at will.”

As true now as it was in 1895. The world has gone mad plenty of times before.

Struggling a bit here. High up on the stringency index in terms of restrictions and high up in terms of cases of the virus.

IT also now reporting that Covid-19 restrictions reduced tax revenues by €3.6bn in 2020. What implications will this massive fall in our tax take mean for the funding of our already feeble health service?

    1. GiggidyGoo

We’re 5.4% ahead of target for the first 8 months of 2021. That was the happy clappy press release by Donohue318:00

  3. Mr T

Its almost as if the vaccines by reducing symptoms, increase the spread (more asymptomatic types on the go)

Its not going away anytime soon

    1. SOQ

Even the reduction in symptoms could be explained as seasonal- time will tell.

In the meantime- another jab of the vaccine father? Oh, go on, go on, just a little jab- ya will ya will.

        1. E'Matty

If you want to know what gaslighting is, this is it. SOQ posts a comment with an opinion point and a humorous take on a factual reality. Tom2 comes in effectively accusing SOQ of suffering a mental illness. Stay classy Tom2. Gaslighting 101

          1. chris

It’s because they have nothing of importance to add to the situation, there’s no logical way of explaining or supporting the official narrative, that’s the best they can do to avert the cognitive dissonance they most surely need.

          2. Charlie

Leave Tom2 alone! He obviously thinks he’s on a site for the McGregor fan club. It’s a common mistake.

        2. duncan

You know the old chestnut “I’m sane, it’s everyone else that’s mad”?
Insulting people who you disagree with does nothing to progress the argument
          in any constructive way.

See ya buddy, thanks for all the headlines. I hope ya go and talk to your GP.

Is it a daily record today for posters going “I’ve had enough – I’m done here” or somesuch..

Great the way they need to come on to tell everyone. Some stink of want from them.

  6. Nigel

I mean, you probably have resources you could use to find an explanation, and that would be interesting and perhaps even emlightening, but you’re committed to not believing those explanations in favour of just throwing stuff out there and waving your hands around and muttering ‘crime against humanity.’

    1. Chris

The explanation has been casually dripped out by many. Even if it’s made explicit they’re are those that DO NOT WANT TO KNOW. They turn their noses up at any contravening info, back to the safety of the ‘narrative/policy’. I’ll throw you a bone, and if you can accept or even conceive of the possibility, you might be able to process further – but it is a rough ride. We are under a Coup.

          1. Nigel

IF IT’S A COUP WHY ARE THE DEMOCRATCIALLY ELECTED FECKERS WHO FORMED A GOVERNMENT STILL A GOVERNMENT? DON’T YOU KNOW WHAT COUP MEANS? OR DO YOU THINK IT’S A TYPE OF BLANKET?

          2. chris

Corporate Capture of all institutions is complete, it is a soft fascism for now. The puppets you imagine as in charge do not hold the reigns of power.

          3. Nigel

Not sure what you think has changed since pre-pandemic days – corporate regulatory capture and the accruing of undemocratic economic power was proceeding quite nicely before covid. If anything, covid interrupted it. However it does set the stage nicely for a bunch of paranoid contrarians to oppose action on climate change, which opposition corporations will welcome, I’m sure.

          4. chris

They’re are no opposing corporate factions, it’s exactly the same money moving from one industry to the next.

  7. Yarfakdu

Out of curiosity has anyone had covid. I’ve had it the last week (positive antigen test) it was a very mild summer cold but I lost my taste/smell for 6 days. I’m mid 30s not overweight but heavy enough type 1 diabetic with high blood pressure and honestly I wouldn’t notice it considering the constant colds my kids give me. Double vaxxed since July. Why does nobody talk about the fact this isn’t even remotely as bad as a flu because of the vaccine/because it maybe wasn’t that bad to begin with. Feel grand today after 6 days.

    1. Charlie

Maybe it effects certain people in different ways. Maybe it even kills people. Maybe you’re a lucky lad. Maybe my mate who was perfectly fit (aged 54) didn’t die as a direct result of Covid and his wife family and me just imagined it.

    2. Micko

Had it in Jan before vaccines.

Just had a funny taste in my mouth and absolutely knackered for about a week or so.

But I know people who had it worse, but they were all over 60.

All were fine in the end thankfully.

    3. tom2

How much of a viral load were you exposed to? Oh you’ve clue, right? Another pointless personal anecdote.

      1. Yarfakdu

I haven’t a breeze I was just curious. I don’t go to rally’s etc I took precautions like everyone else then I finally got it only checked cause I thought my son had something and had to check for the gp visit. He had a bad dose for 2 days in fairness wife had nothing other son had nothing. I was really only putting it out there to see if maybe the vax does reduce symptoms? My dad in his 60s got it was tired etc but that’s about it, he had stents 15 months ago. Frankly it’s a bit odd that I asked if any commentators had it and I was jumped on. I genuinely don’t post often to things and I felt like I could get a relatively truthful response in this format. Nobody talks about how many are now getting it and not having much of a problem, as I mentioned I’m high risk. It would genuinely be beneficial for the anti vax crowd

        1. GiggidyGoo

“Frankly it’s a bit odd that I asked if any commentators had it and I was jumped on.”
Par for the course here. Sheeple ‘r Us get quite agitated, haven’t any intelligent to add, and try their version of cancel culture.

broadsheet contributor with entrenched view vs broadsheet contributor with entrenched view in response to broadsheet moderator entrenched anti-vaxx stance. etc. 18 months now. The virus will give up before this will.

For what it’s worth I’ve always been pro vaxx (for all, incl children), pro indoor dining cert, pro mask, pro ditching the PUP, anti tin-hat hazmat suit brigade (Cian) pro getting the Feck on with getting on with life. I just don’t post about it any more (yeah yeah I know – apart from this) because there’s really no point. “Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference”

    1. Chris

This is the calm before the storm. I’m thankful that BS is at least one of the last bastions of reality. The people speaking out are doing so out of their own conscience, that in some way they can warn those of what is to come. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that it mostly a fools errand, but the heart is always foolish. It is however pure and works of its own volition. Never try to reason a man out of a position that he arrived in without reason, but we still try.

      1. Oro

This is like an 11 year olds first stab of poetry they write for their imaginary warhammer games. It’s just faux grandeur word vomit. To say nothing of your male hero worship. But then look at who replied in agreement. I’m shocked (I’m not).

I guess the other type of BS is your last bastion of reality.

        1. Ghost of Yep

“It’s just faux grandeur word vomit”

How do people, like yourself, completely miss the irony of this sentence in the context of what you just posted.

          1. Oro

Oh come on… “the heart is always foolish”?!? Meaningless waffle. It’s attempting to evoke some kind of glint-in-the-eye filmic thing that’s just extremely cringe. My comment was far more straightforward (Altho littered with errors now that I look at it haha).

    1. Bodger

George, covid doesn’t affect young people, but the covid vaccine can be fatal to the young. The seat belts are defective.

      1. username already in use

Bodger….I would be prepared to credit you with just “not knowing” or being ignorant on this subject….exceptI ihave seen *multiple* posters correct this *rubbish* and post links to the actual facts. Under your flippin “articles”!!

Vaccine adverse responses are identical to symptoms following infections from CoVID in all age ranges, and are *more* common following COVID infections than following vaccines.

The only issue is that serious illness following infections is less likely among the young BUT, these adverse responses are still MORE COMMON following infections in the young than are adverse responses following vaccines.

You are just spreading disinformation and vaccine scare waffle.

      2. username already in use

For ex, two days ago from alikdouglas under your own article

“Not having a go at you personally, but I think this is an interesting illustration of how analyses don’t necessarily line up neatly within an organization like CDC.

        http://dx.doi.org/10.15585/mmwr.mm7035e5

Quote: During March 2020–January 2021, patients with COVID-19 had nearly 16 times the risk for myocarditis compared with patients who did not have COVID-19, and risk varied by sex and age.

Biggest increase in risk is in ppl less than 16 years and greater than 75. This does not compare vax vs. non vax, but does make a correction for the potential impact of vax-related myocarditis. Message for me is that I probably wouldn’t focus on myocarditis alone as the differentiator as to whether I would consider vax for <18y."

Kindly point out anything I have said which you claim is “palpable nonsense”? Thanks.

        1. Bodger

Pretty much everything in your comment. They’re making it up as they go along to cover for the damage caused by the vaccines and you are unable to see that. Mu variant, anyone?

      4. username already in use

        Wut???

I posted actual data and an interpretation based on them (and other data). The safety and effectiveness of vaccines is clear from millions of individuals.

Where are you getting this claim from? What evidence supports it?

Mu emerged in Columbia first, where there are virtually no availablevaccines. ALL current variants emerged among unvaccinated populations. What was your point?

        1. Bodger

‘Where are you getting this claim from?’ George, I’ve two rules in life. Never try to wake up anyone who doesn’t wish to be woken up and never take a vaccine from a eugenicist.

      5. Nigel

There’s a guy down the vax centre named Eugene and Bodger thinks he’s going to take his genes and use them.

  9. johnnyAppleseed

Vaccinations are Optional, but Mandatory, although ins a voluntary way, but you cannot refuse. More precisely you can, but you can be fired, although it is illegal, until the judges decide that it is not.

No Vaccination needed, although it might be required, but not necessarily, since the vaccine protects for 2 years,
but the antibody count will be too low in six months, however, you will still have some antibodies, but they wont help against the new variants, nonetheless another jab should help grow new antibodies, but we are not 100% sure if that will be the case.

Get Vaccinated and you won’t get sick, although you may get sick later, but it won’t be as severe, although there are new variants, but you should not get sick, however there are a lot of new patients with the antibodies. You should be immune if you already had the virus or were vaccinated, but we are not sure of that, therefore get vaccinated, which is optional, but is going to be mandatory.
