An FFP3 mask
This morning.
Via Irish Times:
The National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) has advised that people can choose to wear FFP3 and the slightly lower-grade FFP2 respirator or medical masks instead of cloth masks if they wish, but stopped short of recommending the higher-grade masks to the public instead of cloth ones….
…Nphet has advised that a respirator or medical mask rather than a cloth mask should ideally be worn by anyone who is a confirmed case while infectious, who has Covid-19 symptoms, who is a household contact of a case or who is visiting a healthcare setting or a vulnerable person.
Coronavirus: High-grade masks may be better for those at risk, says Nphet (Irish Times)

Why not go full Bane? For an Omicron cold like.
Time to get members of NPHET psychologically evaluated.
383,057 active Covid cases currently in Ireland.
But yeah – masks!
FFS
Maybe they need the new hepa filter mask that comes with ventilation unit at €25 grand
A whole industry has grown around this virus
Maybe a few brown envelopes
slightly bizarre one for yiz…
I have boxes of 3m valved ffp3’s from a previous line of work in the shed so naturally I use them when out doing the shop in Tesco’s etc and have distributed many to family over the last couple of years
I’ve been stopped numerous times now by “concerned citizen” types who query where did I get them / why I have them / not fair / should they not be only for medical professionals / how I’m selfish to be using them yadda ?!
seems to be touchy subject in certain quarters
mask envy?
jaysus
that’s mental, people have lost their tiny minds
I had a couple of those valved ones in the shed, pre-pandemic, I used them up but then read that the valves mean you’re spewing your breath out so the whole ‘I protect you’ idea of the mask was negated, who knows if it’s true, can’t imagine how it’s anyone else’s business though, bizarre indeed.
valved protect the wearer hence why you don’t see them much in general hospital use.
The valve is the issue, as it negates the real purpose of the mask mandate – to protect the public at large if you are infected.
Cloth masks do very little to protect the individual wearer. They now know aerosols can pass through cloth masks easily. If you want protect yourself from aerosols already in the air, you need FFP2/N95 or equivalent masks.
You can get valve-less KN95 masks quite readily now and they do make a noticeable difference. I’ve walked into smoky rooms and only noticed the smoke after removing the mask – you couldn’t say the same for a cloth mask.
It won’t stop everything, but I feel safer wearing them over a cloth one.
Lies
?
The answer to all those questions is A) Fupp off B) Fupp off and if you are feeling charitable you could bring up the amazing, almost magical concept of online ordering from other countries then go straight to C) Fupp off.
Great, let’s start another run on medical supplies needed for front-line medical staff.
if theres a type of mask that works better than the others, why not advise everyone to get them? I will never forget Varadkar stating that masks were useless at the start of the pandemic, only to come out later and say they’re actually very good and he only said they didnt work before because he didnt want supplies of them to run out for medical staff. I don’t know why he wasn’t dragged over the coals for such a dangerous lie. very telling that his first choice tactic was to lie. and he absolutely did not see a problem with it. how could anyone trust anything he says when he lies so much and even admits it and sees it as fine?
if Leo was to be dragged over the coals, he’d play the pity-g.a.y. card to get sympathy and deflect it.
The thing about masks is, they are useless, it’s just a few layers of fabric, they don’t help. Proof, if someone in the same room as you who is wearing underwear and jeans farts, you can still smell it. if jeans don’t block faecal particles, how will cloth or fabric block the smaller C virus.
its Varadker you’re talkin about Fart
“if his lips are moving” etc
just add it to the index tabbed catalogue
And here we are, nigh on two years into this palaver and the debate about the efficacy of masks continues. How can we possibly have enough time and expertise to understand whether the answer to this is yes, no or it depends on the mask.
Or perhaps the answer is clear and there’s so much bullshit, lies and agenda-hijacking that obfuscation wins out?
It was known 18 months ago that cloth face covers etc. were much less effective than FFP3 and KN95 masks.
Why is it only now that this issue is raised?
As with antigen tests, hepa air-filters, adequate provision of ICU beds, etc., this was another obvious tool that should have been applied long before now.
Instead, by lacking in approaches that would have mitigated the disease, the citizens were subjected to periods of mass house arrest that was much longer than should have been necessary.
It is hard to have much confidence in such leadership.
obviously, some donor to one of the coalition parties now has either a stock of masks or a licence to supply them or somesuch.
it’s all about the gravy, baby.
I wish i could call nonsense on this…but given the slimeballs running things and their track record youre more than likely right
Nothing would surprise me at this stage scottser, nothing.
I’ve a load of FFP2 masks and use them all the time now instead of the cloth ones.
We are coming up on 2 years of this now and as yet I have not caught covid and have been out quite a bit so will not be using the cloth ones again.
Not sure if I would need a higher rating though.
Let’s look at this logically, I use these masks myself, as I’m a bit handy ’round the house. Using a sander or angle-grinder, they keep most, but not by any means all, of the dust out. However, they are designed to filter dust when you breathe in, not on the way out, so someone wearing them to stop infecting others is a bit of a stretch. Anyway, virus particles are at just above the size of molecules, some are smaller than many larger molecules. You won’t be stopping them with any fabric that doesn’t severely impact your breathing.
The standard surgical masks they are demanding kids wear, in schools, shed particles which enter the lungs & stay there, indefinitely. Scar tissue will build up around the particles, inhibiting lung function over the long term. A middle-aged person may never live long enough to be impacted by this but a child will.
