Pro-mask Prof. Cliona Ni Cheallaigh has called for continued mask-wearing

This morning.

Dr Cliona Ní Cheallaigh, consultant in infectious diseases and general medicine at St James’s Hospital in Dublin, has said she would “suggest very strongly” that people continue to wear masks.

Via RTE News”

Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Dr Ní Cheallaigh said the Government is discussing mandates, which is different to wearing a mask by choice which she said she would encourage people to do if they want to avoid getting Covid-19.

There’s still an awful lot of Covid circulating around, so I think if you don’t want to get Covid I would suggest very strongly that you continue to wear your masks,” she said.

She said unfortunately the vaccine “is not 100% by any means“.

Dr Ní Cheallaigh said recent high case numbers are likely due to people with compromised immune systems being infected with Covid-19.

“People whose immune systems don’t work at all. They’re still getting really, really sick and dying from Covid unfortunately and because there’s so much of it circulating, they’re being exposed,” she said.

Right.

But I’m not a self-professed bigot. I’m very discerning with my detestation.

You just carry on being obsequious.

          Poor crawler.

The effectiveness of your contributions here will be talked about long, long after the tales from Táin Bó Cúailnge agus an Fhiannaíocht have been forgotten.

          Not until then, mind.

How many people in Ireland, like what percentage of the population have compromised immune systems and therefore need this advice ? Naturally one is more than I’d like but I’d like to know the figures.

        1. Tom J

I don’t think he was reading the percentage of population in the Republic of Ireland with underlying conditions.

          1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

well it might justify telling everyone they are at risk or have deficient immune systems… because that’s how her message reads

sorry didn’t get to finish that comment,
actions have to be appropriate and balanced.

children are not high risk, some children are high risk…fixed that for you

          4. goldenbrown

one is too many…is that the eventual terminus here?

ever campaigned on any other life related subjectmatters Tom?

Regardless of what he was reading, as Francis Bacon is credited with saying “Knowledge itself is power” and anyone asking for someone knowledge to be held back or asking “why do you need to know that?” is not working in that other person’s interest and is actively trying to restrict them.

            That’s why.

a bang of Catholic Ireland’s ” because I said so ” and that should be good enough for you off of it

          7. Tom J

Yes I’m afraid so. But I’m all grown up now so anyone who wants to take the Nintendo I’m ready for them.

  2. Rominick

People want to wear masks, let them.
    I’m not responsible for others.
Never worn one, will never wear one.

Pre pandemic those with ‘immune systems that didn’t work’ didn’t rely or expect everyone around them to wear a mask and or ‘protect’ them in public. They protected themselves, still went to school, went to work and got public transport etc. Even the seasonal flu shot for medical staff in hospitals was voluntary not mandatory
How has this public health advice so fundamentally changed from ‘protect yourself’ to ‘everyone must protect you’?

Bodger has no dog in this fight…except the delicious clicks, which we’re all only too happy to give him as it’s might entertaining, tbf.

        1. Micko

First you get the clicks… then you get the attention… then you get the power…. then you get de women

Also, sugar may be involved somehow. I get very confused sometimes between reality and TV.

Hey Broadsheet, any chance of a small site redesign in which you split it into two distinct sections:

    1. The original pre Covid stuff that is interesting, engaging, amusing, etc., and made this site appealing

    2. Covid conspiracy theory stuff that is none of the above

Then the user doesn’t need to waste as much time filtering out the useless , trolling, purposely confrontational, clickbait type stuff.

    Just a thought.

      RTE
      INDEPENDENT
      TIMES
      VIRGIN

Plenty of your preferred options there Jon (as well as the others mentioned above). Are you asking them for a similar break?

    2. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

I’d like a page that’s mostly filth and cooking and tunes if we are doing requests DJ ;)

      1. Janet, dreams of an alternate universe

PS Jon , DJ ‘s HATE requests
they prefer a drink or you flash yer tits that just say “NO ABBA” ( or in your case NO COVID ) tattooed across them …

  5. Jon Smoke

I am just thinking of simpler times when Broadsheet posted nude photos of Rosanna Davison and the like.

  6. Dr.Fart

why are people such weak little moaners when it comes to masks? and not just about having to wear them themselves, they’ll get angry about other people wearing them. Such whingey loser carry on.

    1. Chris

It’s been explained plenty of times, they don’t stop viruses, they reduced visual accuracy in childhood learning and importantly they serve as a signifier of obedience, which bootlickers obviously don’t mind but independent thinkers find abhorrent.
