In an emotional moment outside Leinster House, a member of the Ukrainian community asked to speak on the microphone of the Irish Anti-War Movement. He called on Ireland to not remain neutral, but the IAWM members maintained that they were on the side of neutrality.

      C’mere
      He’s not alone
      And something else
He didn’t come up with that plan for Ireland all by himself either

And for what it’s worth folks
I certainly won’t be giving up our Neutrality
No matter what it’s worth these days

      It was hard won

And in case ye didn’t notice
We’re already in the final days of being ransacked and looted for reparations

Our Neutrality might be the only national natural resource we have left

We are no longer nuetral we signed up to PESCO
If the EU goes to war we are also at war
I vote we have not the final say
If the EU goes to war get ready to see Russian ships disrupting supplies to the EU via the Atlantic
This will not be WW2 with the same nuetrality

It is the same play book over and over again, I remember the media during the first Gulf War, then the bombing of Serbia, then the second Iraq war, then the Afghan war, then the bombing of Libya…etc…etc…The reporting is exactly the same, get everyone’s hackles up so that they will agree to send their sons and daughters to fight in a far off land for the politicians, yet it’s never the politicians who suffer for playing with people’s lives. Let Leo fupp off to the front.

After gas price has jumped by over 40% yesterday, it went down 15% this morning.
What is the reason? Ukrainian gas transport operator has increased flow of gas from Russia into Europe.
    They are sold out.
    Cheers.

The last time when there were sanctions imposed on Russia, because of the same reason – attacking Ukraine, for some unexplained reason it did not stop companies from North American continent selling them oil well drilling machinery.
Yes, at least those pesky Russians stopped importing cheese from Europe.

Btw. Ukraine produces insanely large quantities of grains.
Gas prices went up already even before this war.
Gas is extensively used in manufacturing of fertilisers.
If the conflict is not resolved soon, expect food prices going sky-high this summer.

Two points. Ireland has a major free rider issue with regard to NATO which we’ve benefited from without ever contributing to because our geography has naturally protected us from the like of Nazi Germany or the totalitarianism of USSR / Russia. We’ve never addressed this is a grown up way without getting hysterical about it on both sides. Secondly the US does not have a conscription army or national service. So when you voluntarily join up the country does expect you do a tad more than get a chest full of medals for invading Grenada or helping out with the odd coup in some troublesome Central of South American country. I’m afraid bemoaning body bags in something one should consider as an occupational hazard before signing up. Caveat emptor.

No voluntary conscription you say, might aswell give away our hard won neutrality. You happy to have your own kids, grandkids head off to be slaughtered for other countries?

There might not be conscription now, but what do you think happens when a war breaks out and NATOs short on bodies. Russia/China has never attacked us, that would be our NATO brother the UK that still occupies 6 of our counties.

If you feel that strongly about Ireland getting in on the war mongering you can start with yourself. See you when you’re back from Kyiv.

this is exactly the kind of knee jerk throwing the toys out of the pram hysteria I mentioned once anyone even tries to debate a sacred cow. I was merely stating that Ireland has a free rider issue with NATO it has never owned up to in a mature honest way. I was not advocating membership just a little less of the earnest holier than though breast beating would be in order and a frank admission that our neutrality is a bit of an oxymoron. The idea of conscription in Ireland is frankly risible btw given our geographic location. It will be interesting to see what the populaces of Finland, Austria & Sweden decide re NATO membership though now, particularly as Finland has some first hand knowledge of Soviet totalitarianism up close and personal.

Russian tanks roll into a sovereign nation 3000 kilometres away and your talking instantly about Ireland joining NATO. It’s not me that’s jerking his knee Stephen. And conscription is very much what anyone should question when giving away neutrality. It’s a logical question

Dont worry Ukraine. Now that covid restrictions are ending, all the Covid restriction human rights protestors can divert their convoys and protests in your support!

best thing de Valera or his overlords opted to do was to keep us neutral. I don’t thing this was out of care and concern for us tho. the worst thing they did to us … we may just be about to find out.
