I thought it was already illegal to drink in the street; I’m not sure what additional powers the Gardaí would need.
You might be thinking of the USA.. There aren’t any laws against drinking alcohol in public in Ireland unless you’re acting the maggot, or too close to the premises from which you purchased the alcohol.
