Somebody’s Child – Crazy

Out standing in his field.

Looking back on the Irish year in music just passed, we must not forget this single from Dublin songsmith Cian Godfrey aka Somebody’s Child.

The bandcamp blurb states:

“Starting his musical journey at age 5 in Paris, Cian took to playing the piano in the family apartment. Upon moving back to Ireland, Cian gained an interest in songwriting, enabling him to tell his own stories. These narratives often reflect upon difficult mental health experiences, as well as the endearing happenings of a youngster growing up in Dublin.”

The video is directed by Sam Follover and edited by Robert Bass.

Nick says: Child’s play.

Somebody’s Child

Nippy, in fairness.

Meanwhile…

Via Kerry Louise Bray on Telegram:

I was in town [Dublin] yesterday, met someone I know who is a Special needs Assitant and he told me the kids are all sitting in their jackets during class because they have to keep windows open to stop the transmission of the virus.

Our government cares so much about our youth it didn’t even think of investing in ventilation…

So they are sat in classrooms freezing their butts off with windows open and having to wear masks 7- 8 hrs a day…

We can still go to the bar though and not have to wear a mask.

Maybe we should move the kids into bars…. and let them do classes from there. Would make about as much sense as this governments regulations

Feeling down?

The first great cultural festival of the year is already in full swing. First Fortnight is a great way to beat the January blues, and offers a plethora of events both in person and online.

Maria Fleming, CEO First Fortnight, writes:

“The last two years has opened the conversation around mental health in new ways and there is a welcome awareness of all our fragility and our resilience when it comes to our own mental health. However, the crucial question for First Fortnight is how the conversation has changed, if at all, in relation to the stigma attached to mental ill health. Are we more open now to discussing anxiety and wellness? Does our comfort level stretch to an openness to discuss depression, bi-polar, schizophrenia or OCD?

Nick says: A healthy start to 2022.

Trouble Pilgrims – 21st Century Girl

How do you like your eggs?

That’s the question you may find yourself pondering after watching the charming archive video for this single from the recent Trouble Pilgrims album Blood, Glass & Gasoline.

This is old school rock and roll from past masters of the art.

The Pilgrims are: Tony St Ledger, Bren Lynott, Steve Rapid, Johnny Bonnie and Pete Holidai

These Radiators are still hot!

Nick says: Pilgrims progress.

Telefis – Falun Gong Dancer

Station to station.

Contrarian Corkonian Cathal Coughlan teams up with ace producer Jackknife Lee on this third single from their forthcoming album A hAon.

The blurb states:

“In contrast with the first two releases, “Falun Gong Dancer” has a very stark arrangement, featuring a cyclical, meditative melody over dissolving piano chords and synth pulses, heard in episodic passages which take the listener on a tour of the world – from London, to the US-Mexico border, to the cities of Australasia – in the company of a hapless narrator.

“Occasional interludes of electronic harmony hint at either a tentative intimacy, or at an isolation which is final and absolute – it remains ambiguous.”

The visuals by film-maker Matt Mahurin are quite startling.

Nick says: No flipping.

“The unvaccinated, I really want to piss them off. And so, we’re going to continue doing so, until the end. That’s the strategy.

“I won’t send (the unvaccinated) to prison, I won’t vaccinate by force. So we need to tell them, from Jan. 15, you won’t be able to go to the restaurant anymore, you won’t be able to down one, won’t be able to have a coffee, go to the theatre, the cinema…”
