I’m a contemporary Irish Jewellery designer based in Cork City. I recently had the honour of designing and making the wedding bands for my best friend Brian’s wedding. Ive known Brian all my life, we grew up together.
He married the love of his life Kieran recently in a beautiful ceremony in our hometown of Galway, something which he had never imagined he would be able to do.
I fell in love with the art of jewellery making while studying in Florence and I’m fortunate enough to have been able to turn this passion into my career so I was overjoyed when Brian asked me to make their wedding bands.. The slim white gold rings are court shaped with hand engraved grooves on either side.
Through my work [at link below] I explore the inherent beauty in different manifestations of strength and although these rings were quite different from my own collections they are more of a symbol of strength than anything I have previously made.
A wedding band is a public acknowledgment of commitment and a physical reminder of the love each partner has for each other.
The recent momentous events in Ireland means that *all people* can now wear and express their acknowledgment, commitment and love for each other.
FIGHT!

Yesterday: How We Wrote
No Monster Club’s I’ve Retired.
One song’s odyssey through different band configurations and venues big, small and homely.
Includes footage from Whelan’s, BelloBar, Birthdays, Knockanstockan, Roisin Dubh, Sweeney’s, The R.A.G.E., The Pop Inn, The Academy, Castlepalooza, Pine Lodge, The Ashdale Living Room, The Button Factory and Connolly’s of Leap, West Cork..
Bobby, of No Monster Club, recent YMLT residents, writes:
“Bubblegum pop nugget ‘I’ve Retired’ featured on No Monster Club’s 2015 album ‘People Are Weird‘.
This new video, by Daniel Martin, follows the journey of the song since its release, from house shows to festivals, via rock clubs and dive bars.
It also depicts the ever-changing cast of No Monster Club, as it flits everywhere from a solo project to a five-piece band.”
No Monster Club’s debut 7″ EP, Where Did You Get That Milkshake?, will be released on Emotional Response Records on September 5.
Earlier, in our regular Golden Discs slot, we asked if you would like to share a Clannad song to mark the recent passing of founding member Padraig Duggan.
‘Penfold’ wins a Golden Discs voucher worth TWENTY FIVe Euros for choosing Buachaill ón Éirne [the Boy from Erne] for Padraig and “…because it’s one of the songs that brings back memories of playing in youth band before GAA matches years ago”.
Runners up
Kolmo: “For the week that’s in it would you ever just play Journey’s End by Clannad because of the unfortunate passing of a founding member of this iconic Irish band and the fact that I am about to get off a Bus Eireann bus in the midlands due to the relatively short actual journey I had been on is about to end..”
Pat Walsh “For the week that’s in it would you ever just play In A Lifetime by Clannad & Bono because it would be nice to introduce the lead singer from U2 to a wider audience.”
Mildred St Meadowlark: “For the week that’s in it would you ever just play Dúlamán because it’s an absolutely golden version of a classic Irish song about seaweed, of all things, and a great toe-rapper of a tune.”
Rory: “Newgrange from Intermission.”
Dermot: “The Theme from Harrys Game because ’tis still a fine tune after 33 years.”
Fluffybiscuits: “Harry’s Game – reminds me childhood holidays with arseholes called Gallagher in Donegal.”
Thanks all
