So anyway, Toronto has opened up the voting for its newest park to the Interwebs and it just so happens that of the 5 options one is Corktown Common, as part of the area bordering the park is called Corktown after the many Irish immigrants who moved to this part of Toronto after the Famine. I suspect the fine people of Cork may think “Corktown Common” has a nicer ring to it than “Kings Reserve”

ShatterHe doesn’t ‘do’ names.

Justice Minister Alan Shatter will publish the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commissioner’s report on the writing off of penalty points tomorrow.

“The report was compiled by Assistant Garda Commissioner John O’Mahony.

“A Government spokesman said “the names are being redacted”.

I thought that this is fairly suitable for the site. Daniel Day lewis speaking [at the Ireland American Fund dinner in New York] this week about the Wicklow Hospice and introducing their Chairperson for Fundraising (I’ve to declare an interest – it’s my mum). Just thought I’d flag it as it’s a touching introduction, and I know the charity are always keen for as much publicity as possible.
