Sheila Larkin writes:

Reports of a person with a big sieve around Portobello Harbour are unconfirmed…But I can confirm the Grand Canal at Portobello Harbour (Dublin), is looking much better. Three full skip-type bags remain at the side of the canal and the big blue pipe is gone. Yay.

Speaking in Brussels today, Mr Gilmore said his wife was being treated equally to other people in the education system who were being redeployed as a result of the Government’s decision to amalgamate the VECs.

“It’s disappointing that some people seem to think that a woman shouldn’t have a job or an independent career,” he told reporters.

Shame on some people for thinking that.

Gamification has been a bit of a marketing buzzword over last year or so. Normally applied to things like forums and coupon sites.

The idea is to reward returning users with badges and achievements to drive the user interaction and repeat site visits.

It can be a bit twee and silly but it doesn’t really mean anything.

Until now.

The Israel Defence Forces Blog has decided to gamify its website during an ongoing operation where real people are dying.

From the Migrant Rights Centre Ireland:

MRCI research shows significant levels of exploitation and discrimination of care workers from a black and ethnic minority background. In particular those from African origins said they had experienced racism in the work place. MRCI recommends care work be situated within an equality and human rights framework to ensure the rights and dignity of all all parties are protected and upheld, including workers are those using care supports.
