Against a white background, the Kishu Collection by Maya Selway appears to be a series of minimalist sketches of everyday items.

In fact, it’s a (just about) functional set of trompe l’oeil sculptural forms crafted from oxidized copper – each piece carefully weighted to help it balance.

Rise, the biggest public artwork ever commissioned in Northern Ireland, has won its first international design award. The two large globes on Broadway roundabout in west Belfast have a nickname. Locals refer to them as “the balls on the Falls”. The 37.5 metre high sculpture was the brainchild of Nottingham artist Wolfgang Buttress. It consists of two large globes cast in silver and white steel.

Hardcore.

A few more from the ingenious ‘Sharp Suits’ challenge wherein Ireland’s creative community get to release “a lot of pent up anger and sadness through the medium of the A3 poster” in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

All the posters are currently exhibted at the Little Green Cafe, Dublin, until Wednesday.

One day last month, more than more than 500 Irish kids filmed a moment in their lives and submitted the footage to producers Macalla Teo for inclusion in the documentary series Life’s Like This.

The results, in the form of 12 three-minute documentary films, will be broadcast tomorrow (Tuesday 6th November ) on the hour, every hour between 8am and 7pm on RTÉ2 – each three-minute compilation transmitted at the same hour of the day it was filmed.

A fiesty supercut by Jonathan Keogh who, while admitting that not all of these films come from the top 250 on IMDb, sez (in admirably geeky style):

If Peter Weyland wanted David to learn about cinema while the crew of Prometheus was still in hyper sleep, he’d probably have him go down the IMDB Top 250.
