And probably even electric.

Press Statement

The Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan has presented his report to the Minister for Justice , Equality and Defence. The nature of the concerts held in the Phoenix Park on the 5th, 7th and 8th of July 2012 were such that they attracted a different cohort of patrons each night.

The Thursday night and Sunday night concerts passed off from a policing perspective as predicted during the planning stages for these events.

The concert on the Saturday night (7th July) however didn’t have such a predictable outcome. In that context the review conducted by An Garda Síochána has highlighted a number of matters that need to be addressed in future planning of large outdoor concerts of similar nature.

An Garda Síochána are engaged with the concert promoters and other stakeholders to ensure the implementation of the recommendations contained in the recent review, so that all patrons can enjoy and have a positive experience when attending such events.

Although Tops has continued in the Wexford and Carlow area, the last official and televised Tops of the Town final was in 1997, when both Greenhills and Moate Variety Groups valiantly battled it out on the Gaiety stage for that much coveted Tops of the Town title. It’s been a long 17 years since that final. Is the interest still out there for a Tops revival? Is it even possible in this current economic climate?

Well?

Let’s see a show of jazz hands.

From The Wrap:

Charles McGrath’s elegantly written obituary for the “Burr” novelist [Gore Vidal, above] and literary raconteur who died Tuesday at 86 years old, got a few key details wrong. Those errors forced the Times to issue (below) one of its most bizarrely hilarious corrections yet.

“An earlier version misstated the term Mr. Vidal called William F. Buckley Jr. in a television appearance during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. It was crypto-Nazi, not crypto-fascist. It also described incorrectly Mr. Vidal’s connection with former Vice President Al Gore. Although Mr. Vidal frequently referred jokingly to Mr. Gore as his cousin, they were not related. And Mr. Vidal’s relationship with his longtime live-in companion, Howard Austen, was also described incorrectly.  According to Mr. Vidal’s memoir ‘Palimpsest,’ they had sex the night they met, but did not sleep together after they began living together. It was not true that they never had sex.”
