On the Friday the 30th of April, Pat Barrett was contacted by Bord na Mona. He was informed that he had lost the tender for Boora Bike Hire [county Offaly] to a much larger Bike Hire chain that operates at a national level. 11 years of hard work, patience and unwavering kindness to countless visitors to Boora were not taken into account. Without Pat there would be no Lough Boora Parklands. It would not be the entity that it is today.

I got fed up with Bord na Móna’s smarmy ‘Naturally Driven’ advertising blitz and wondered instead what it would be like if Ireland’s most environmentally destructive company could be a little more honest about its business of burning bogs and destroying ecosystems, rather than pretending to care about ‘the environment’?

This short parody video, voiced over by an angelic 11-year old, suggests they might change their slogan from ‘Naturally Driven’ to a more truthful: ‘Profit Driven….


Bord na Móna workers picket outside the company’s head office this afternoon. Siptu say over 1,200 of their members are on strike over what they call a “bid to introduce performance-related elements” into [the National Wage] agreement.
