We made dog friendly ice-pops, or pupsicles as we like to call them, by boiling chicken breasts and then freezing the water in ice-lolly shapes with a dental chew for the stick.
As you can see by their reactions, the dogs were delighted with the tasty and refreshing treat to cool them down.
Dogs Trust always recommends that owners check with their vet before giving their dogs any treats that they haven’t had before.
All of the dogs in our care that are waiting for their Forever Homes, including the ones seen in this video, can be viewed on our website (at link below)…
Following the abandonment earlier this month of Beau (middle), a female Rottweiler in urgent need of veterinary care, outside the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre, Ashbourne Road, Finglas, Dublin 11…
…CCTV footage (above) from December 2 shows two people walking up to the gates at the centre with Beau on a lead, which is subsequently dropped over a metal post. The Rottie is left behind, looking after the people who left her there…
“I went to open the rehoming centre gates, just after 7:30am and found the poor dog, who we named Beau, attached to the gates. She was immediately friendly and very pleased to see me, which made it even more upsetting when I reviewed the CCTV footage and saw she had been abandoned just before midnight.
I burst into tears when I realised, she had spent over seven hours in the cold, on her own, just lying there, especially given the fact that we have an emergency number stuck to the gate.
It wasn’t until I took her indoors into the light, that I saw the tumours hanging from her undercarriage and that her head was tilted to one side.
Upon veterinary examination, it was discovered that Beau had a chronic ear condition that appeared, like her tumours, to be untreated, leaving her in enormous discomfort and causing her head tilt.
In order to decide on the best course of veterinary treatment, we have sent off samples from Beau’s various tumours for laboratory analysis to see if and how they can be treated but are worried about her prognosis.”
“We are very saddened by this case and appeal to anybody who is having difficulties with their dog to please contact us. We are not here to judge you and we will do our upmost to help you, whatever your circumstances are, because we want to avoid cases like Beau happening in the future.”

Cupid and Valentine are two adorable terriers currently resident at Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Dublin, and they are looking for a loving home, not just for Valentine’s Day but for the rest of their lives….
Valentine is an 8 year old terrier cross and Cupid is a 3 year old terrier cross are actually mother and son, and initially arrived at Dogs Trust in 2014 having been found straying by a member of the public. They were at first very nervous in their new surroundings but quickly came around with the help of their care team, and made lots of friends. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstance, they were returned to the centre’s care recently.
There are currently 165 dogs and puppies in Dogs Trust looking for forever homes. why not pay a visit and maybe you could find your perfect match?
Not sure if you guys have seen this, Dogs Trust Ireland have a campaign today called #canaldogs, 51 dogs along the [Grand] canal this morning representing a day of dog surrenders after Christmas, each with their own reason for being abandoned or made homeless.
Ger is a beautiful 9 year old German Shepherd. Poor Ger was found straying; cold, hungry and completely emaciated, he was in terrible condition and massively underweight. Our amazing vet staff and carers at Dogs Trust have helped nurse him back to health and he’s looking and feeling so much better.
Ger’s story, unfortunately doesn’t end there. Ger became quite ill recently and we discovered a problem deep in his abdominal cavity and we’re unsure just how long Ger will remain symptom free. All we can do now is keep Ger as comfortable as possible and closely monitor his welfare. Despite this, Ger is full of positivity and the sweetest, most loving and affectionate fella you could ever meet! He’s hugely popular here with both the staff and the other dogs!
We would love to give Ger the opportunity to live out the rest of his days in a home, a home he should have had from the very start. He would understandably need a quiet home to help him through this difficult time and he’s great with other dogs, so as long as they’re not too bouncy and playful, he’d happily live with a fellow canine companion. please call our rehoming centre on 01 8791000 or email reception@dogstrust.ie
In order to highlight the plight of puppies bought as gifts this Christmas, Dog’s Trust put up this thought-provoking outdoor poster as part of their ‘Press Paws’ campaign.
On a single day in January this year, there were 55 ‘surrender’ phone calls – and that’s not including the dogs just abandoned at the gates. Some of the reasons given for handing dogs in were that ‘they didn’t match the sofa’. We think this poignant image says it all – don’t give a dog as a gift this Christmas.
