There are 3 brothers on the Kerry hurling team.

One is the captain.

They have a match on Sunday, so they train on Wednesday and Friday night.

BUT the manager finds out they played a game of “soccer” on Thursday night.

So he throws them off the team.

UPDATE: Nat King writes: “In light of the fact that manager John Meyler’s son David plays for Sunderland, we accept that this was not a negative reaction to the heady mix of hurling and soccer. “

Thanks FQ

Meath forward Joe Sheridan (above) is leaving inter-county football after securing a job in the construction industry in the United States.

Which prompted the Meath chairman Barney Allen to contend:

“We did our best for him and we did manage to get him a job but he has a commitment over there now.”

Which itself prompted Declan Conlan to write:

It has always annoyed me how GAA players are handed jobs in Ireland just to keep them here. Like how does that work? [Hypothetical situation] GAA manager: “Give Paddy a job” Bank manager: “But he can’t count” GAA manager: “Ah go on, he plays GAA but wants to leave the country” Bank manager: “Why didn’t you say so, I’ll tell the other applicants to shag off”. Equal opportunity employment all the way. I don’t think so. Can someone please explain this?

How lucky?

Luckier than a rabbit’s foot attached to a four-leaf clover in the back pocket of Michael Fassbender’s jeans.

Don’t go asking why TV3’s Martin King was there to dish out the red card.

We don’t know either.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press has been speaking to the “Tripoli brigade” of the rebel fighters. These 475 men either grew up in Tripoli or have family there, and moved from the eastern to the western front – Nalut in the western Nafusa mountains, about 175 miles (280km) from Tripoli – several weeks ago because it was closer to the capital. They hope to be the first to enter Tripoli and expel Muammar Gaddafi and his regime.

Late last week they pushed back Gaddafi’s forces in the coastal plain below the mountain, but Gaddafi’s men entrenched in Tiji have halted their advance with rockets.

Hossam Najjair, a building contractor from Dublin with a Libyan father, who left behind his life in Ireland to fight in the civil war, told the news agency: “We want to keep the advance going. Our goal now is to reach Tripoli at all costs.” Others have come from the US, Germany and Greece to join the battle.”
