Bing is a web search engine owned by Microsoft. Bing directly competes with Google and Bing also owns another well known search engine, Yahoo. Together these two minnows feast off the crumbs of search engine giants Google. And it seems little has changed. We spotted a Microsoft PAID advert on page one of a Google search result for ‘online marketing’ only moments ago. Bow your heads in shame Microsoft.

Microsoft Caught Advertising On Google (Lucidity.ie)

Graffitiman writes:

“Yesterday there was an advertisement on Facebook from an independent gallery saying that Google HQ Dublin had contacted them looking for Irish graffiti artists and street artists to paint inside their head office. they stated that 16 areas throughout the office were the targeted areas. We contacted the email address given and were told that there is:

A.No budget for the commission,

B. No fees for the artists undertaken to do the commissions,

C. No chance of reimbursement for the materials, costs, etc.,

D. That we would have to undertake the commission in the evenings and weekends when the office was closed.

E. The person dealing with this commission and project was ‘away on holidays for a few months and wouldn’t be able to help with any funding’.

This is ludicrous and a total lack of respect from this major international company. It’s more annoying that they have this ‘cool and liberated’ PR image and then want to ‘throw some graffiti artists a bone’ by letting them paint their hallowed offices for nothing. Laughable.”

The threat to the freedom of the internet comes, [Google founder Sergey Brin] claims, from a combination of governments increasingly trying to control access and communication by their citizens, the entertainment industry’s attempts to crack down on piracy, and the rise of “restrictive” walled gardens such as Facebook and Apple, which tightly control what software can be released on their platforms.

Hey Broadsheet, come on, some balance with Google stuff. Raise the tech bar. This isn’t the Irish Times or the Sunday Business Post tech coverage PR recycling drivel. Let’s see some balance beyond the happy clappy PR sucked up by the Google Adwords invoice processors in Ringsend. These guys want to disrupt everything except themselves. Try this from today’s FT (behind paywall):

“Google pioneered the technology industry dismal trend of stripping shareholders of voting rights with its initial public offering in 2004. Now the “don’t be evil” company has added a depressing twist with its plan to add a class of non-voting shares to prevent its founders from being held accountable.

Silicon Valley companies like to boast how they change the world for the better by challenging incumbents in various industries. When it comes to being challenged themselves on how they run their businesses, however, they prefer to be entrenched.

Google set up a special committee of board members which took 15 months to agree the proposal, having “retained its own financial and legal advisers”. Unsurprisingly, at the end of this rigorous process, the independent directors did what the founders wanted.”

Of course you do. It was going to be the world’s biggest search engine. It represented Sarah Carey’s foray into Silicon Valley? Well, it seems like Google [the world’s actual biggest search engine] have snapped up the last of her college friend Tom Costello’s patent applications.
