The Unspecified Thing That Looks Like Ireland: broadsheet@broadsheet.ie
A six-week supply of Great Britain stamps (an old batch from 1912-13) was received in Dublin on February 10, 1922.
And overprinting began the same day.
A week later, Ireland’s first official postage stamps were made available to the public
Shortly after the overprints appeared, Winston Churchill, then Secretary of State for the Colonies, was questioned in Parliament “whether the King’s head on British stamps . . . had been defaced by being printed over by the Irish Provisional Government . . . .” Churchill responded that “. . . it is the usual practice in a period of transition to overprint postage stamps, and the present arrangement has been agreed to by His Majesty’s Government . . . .”

Nein.
12.26 Germany appears to be refuting everything today.
German news agency DPA is reporting that German government
spokesperson Steffen Seibert has said Ireland won’t enjoy exceptions
to the European Stability Mechanism procedure, but said special
circumstances are taken into account.
He added Ireland does not enjoy “special status” in the support of
its banks.
Earlier today (see 08.59) Irish papers were reporting that Merkel had
told Ireland’s Taoiseach Enda Kenny that the country’s bank debt is a
“special case”.

I talked my Grandma into developing her old 8mm movie. I’m happy I did because the footage is unreal. My grandfather would document each family vacation and this video tells the story of a family road trip though Ireland. I tried to edit the footage as unobtrusively as possible to tell his story. Includes Belfast, Antrim, Ventry, Dingle, County Donegal, Dungiven.
