“This popped through the letterbox this morning. What I want to know is what Seán Sherlock going to do about the terrible smell of desperation lingering around the Labour party?”

But isn’t Simon Coveney claiming the credit for cleaning up Haulbowline?

Has anyone else noticed the heavy-handed makeup job done for Cllr Dermot Lacey’s campaign photos? So rosy that I had to look up first that it’s not something he normally wears before posting here…his makeup artist is some amateur!

[Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton; John Lyons, TD; Phil Prendergast, MEP; and Tánaiste and Labour leader Eamon Gilmore TD at Labour’s annual think-in at Johnstown House in Co. Meath last September]

On RTÉ’s Morning Ireland this morning, Labour MEP Phil Prendergast called for the resignation of Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore as party leader.

The Irish Times reports:

Ms Prendergast said she believes Joan Burton should be the next leader of the Labour Party and that the time had come to take “urgent action” within the political party.
…
“I think it needs a change in the direction and a change in the leadership and that will be positive for the Labour party,” she added.

Yikes.

Also, FIGHT.

Further to Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s announcement in the Dáil yesterday that the average cost per household in relation to Irish Water will be €240 a year,…

The Irish Examiner reports:

“[This figure] was not signed off by Labour who said they did not get the memo proposing these costs until late on Tuesday night — with little time to examine the complex document before yesterday’s morning cabinet meeting.”

“Yet they believe Fine Gael expected them to sign off on the memo yesterday in an effort to “railroad” the planned costs and charging method without adequate discussion. “We feel we’ve not been treated well by our partners. The two issues are adequate metering and affordability. It [Cabinet] was a heated discussion,” said a senior Labour source.”
