bible

Spotted at the Rathgar Church (specifically a meeting room just behind the church). At the desk where they check your name on the register I noticed that there was a copy of the Bible on the desk. IS this a sneaky attempt at convincing people at the last minute to vote no, or is this the norm?

J writes:

When I went to the polling station this morning in Terenure (presentation primary school) there were New Testament bibles on all the tables where you register. This doesn’t seem to be normal as they weren’t in other stations. I asked about it but didn’t ask that they were removed which I regret now as it’s weird and might affect home some people make a last minute decision. Any chance you could throw this up to see if someone else can ask about it and maybe get them removed?

In 1982 during the summer a series of systematic beatings was carried out in Fairview Park, Dublin. Gay men used the park as a meeting place and for cruising.

On September 10, the gang attacked 31-year-old Aer Rianta worker Declan Flynn. One of the gang was used as ‘bait’ and when Flynn sat down next to him on the bench, the other four rushed out from behind trees.

Their victim managed to run towards the gate and the main road but did not get out of the park in time. They kicked and beat him with sticks and left Declan Flynn lying on the path choking on his own blood. He died within an hour of admission to Blanchardstown Hospital.

His attackers ” were all part of the team to get rid of queers in Fairview Park.”

In March 1983, in court, Justice Sean Gannon gave them suspended sentences for manslaughter and allowed the five to walk free. “This,” he said, “could never be regarded as murder.”

It’s getting close to the end but we threw together one last #BeMyYes event in London last night. We were blown away to be joined by so many Internet strangers who felt the same way – even Moriarty himself, Andrew Scott [third pic second from left]  came along. So much love from London for Marriage Equality and so much hope that we get to walk into work next week with our hearts full of pride for being from the first country in the world to vote for Marriage Equality.
Let’s make this happen – Please #BeMyYES

“This video focuses on the human element to this referendum and the true impact it will have on people’s lives such as Jack and Stefaan from Galway who now live in London.

Last year on their 8th anniversary, Jack proposed in the same Galway cinema where they had their first date. They’ve booked a venue in Galway for their wedding next year but will find out tomorrow if they will be able to live their lives fully and happily in their home country.”
