A recent candy-coloured makeover of Google’s 3000 square meter offices in Amsterdam by Dutch design studio D/DOCK: cardboard lights, repurposed and recycled furniture, quirky ‘huddles’ and meeting rooms (including a caravan), Dutch themed gingerbread walls and stroopwafel ceilings – all inspired by the Menlo Park garage where Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin started the company in 1998.
Way to suck up to the management guise.
The XchangE – an ‘automotive study’ unveiled in the run up to the Geneva Motor Show by Swiss auto lab Rinspeed.
Built by Esoro and based ion the exterior style of the Tesla S, the car – dubbed ‘an office and living room on wheels’ – has swiveling seats with 20 lockable positions, a steering wheel with user hand recognition, a 4k gesture-controlled rear monitor and 1.3m wide html5, cloud-linked driver’s display.
The headliner has an ambient lighting system with 358 individually controlled LEDs. There’s a Swiss made ‘patravi traveltec’ watch encased in a transparent globe embedded in the dash.
Oh, and an espresso machine.
All of which will count for nought when a five year old gawks a semi-digested effusion of wine gums and chocolate milk into the rear footwell.
Built back in 2009, Madrid based architecture firm Selgas Cano’s sunken office in the woods: a tubular space with a wraparound glass wall allowing natural light and productivity-enhancing views of the woodland to flood in.
The Opus Office Tower – a 21 story office building with a void at its center (supply your own metaphor) due for completion in Dubai by 2016, designed by Zaha-Hadid architects, what sez:
The Opus comprises two structures, conceived as a single cube eroded by a free-form void, which appears to ‘hover’ above ground-level. A pixilated reflective façade renders the cube full by day; by night, it ‘dematerializes’ as light floods the void.
A corporate fairytale directed by Jaime Maestro and created, in 2010, by students of of Primer Frame: a wolf gets a job in an office full of plump, succulent and extremely innocent sheep.
