People Before Profit TDs Brid Murphy (above left) and Richard Boyd Barret (above centre) hold a demonstration with elderly activists outside Leinster House calling for all TDs to support their party’s Industrial Relations (Amendment) Bill.
This bill would give retired workers and their associations the right to go to the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) ‘when their occupational scheme has been affected, regardless of the length of time the workers concerned have been retired from their workplace’.
Members of Active Retirement Ireland and Age Action brew up outside the Dail as they call for parties in the General Election to appoint a senior minister for older people and ensure pension reform:
‘We want the next Government not to introduce the planned increase in the pension age to 67 in 2021 and 68 in 2027 because of the disjointed and poor approach to planning which is disproportionately impacting on older people.’
