Enda Kenny with Mario Monti, Italy’s prime minister, center, and Jean-Claude Juncker, Luxembourg’s prime minister, during the European Leaders summit in Brussels.

According to a statement issued at 4am, eurozone leaders pledged to “examine the situation of the Irish financial sector with the view of further improving the sustainability of the well-performing adjustment programme.”

Following intensive negotiations, first at official level and then at heads of government level, it was agreed that the EU’s permanent bailout mechanism could be used to directly recapitalise eurozone banks.

This had been a key demand of the Spanish and other governments, including Ireland, in the run up to this week’s crisis summit. Speaking as he left the European Council building, Mr Kenny described the new deal as a seismic shift in EU policy, and said it would allow Ireland to re-engineer its overall debt level, which would reduce the burden on Irish taxpayers.

Irish authorities are considering moving unprofitable home loans into strengthened non-core units within banks as proposals to strip them from lenders run into difficulty, a person with direct knowledge of the matter said.

The government has been in talks with its aid partners on transferring these loans to a so-called asset warehouse to make the banks easier to sell in the future.

Instead, the state may urge transfer of the loans into clearly-defined separate units, similar to the approach taken by Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc, said the person, who asked not to be identified as the matter is still being considered.

ShoBiz – Reassured

Shola ‘ShoBiz’ Quadri writes;

I am  an Irish hiphop artist/songwriter from Dublin. I recently released a video to my song, Reassured (above).  I understand that the genre in which I’m involved in has seen some difficulties in regards to the public’s embrace compared to other genres but I believe that the sounds I have to offer could change that and create a pillar for the Irish hip hop scene on a large scale.
