Nialler9 writes:

Lots of interesting Fringe Festival music events on this week and none more fitting to the festival than No Earthly Pleasure, the Young Heart Run Free event in the Fumbally Cáfe on Saturday night. The night is more a salon of music and storytelling featuring a wide range of Ireland’s finest: Caoimhín Ó’Raghallaigh, Katie Kim, Tieranniesaur, David O’ Doherty, Kevin Barry, Mossy Nolan, Come on Live Long and more. Plus all proceeds go to the Simon Community too.

There’s also a YHRF symposium of sorts about the meaning of music in our lives with the Peel-inspired title of Life Has Surface Noise on Monday in the Project Arts Centre.

First published on this date in 1763.

Sibling of Daedalus writes:

In the late 18th century, The Freeman’s Journal fell under the control of  Francis Higgins, known as the Sham Squire, who had made his fortune in dubious circumstances.

Heavy set with distinctive helmet hair, the Sham used the paper as a mouthpiece to praise himself, promote a pro-government agenda and spent much of his time suing other newspapers who wrote things about him. *cough*. Good times.

Grafik BS.

A fake studio set up by Amy West (of the Sligo-based Annie West clan) to see if graphic design appreciation on the internet is as superficial as she had hithereto suspected.

Sez Amy:

“A fake Behance page for the studio received hundreds of appreciations, positive comments on the style of the posters and even a job application for a position in the studio.

The experiment proved that there is an online community practising design with the understanding that the entire process consists solely of applying style to anything.”
