Wherin literally dozens of McJobs are ‘pledged’ live on RTE during a 12-hour rock concert.

It gave the Irish economy what Live Aid gave to Africa.

Sweet f**k all. A sense of Hope.

And a bountiful line-up of Irish acts including the last ‘last’ performance by the Boomtown Rats.

Good(ish) times.

YIKES.

Keith Rochfort writes:

While rambling through the sprawling corridors of Cappagh Hospital [Finglas, Dublln] this plaster cast nightmare scared the bejesus out of me. Chained, as it was robbed before (must be interesting security footage somewhere), is it an obscure child slavery charity? Either way it must not pull in much money as the scary child is the more valued (via the crook-proof chain) and not the money box.

But…

I know I know you dont normally do this, but i took a flight this morning to Heathrow on Aer Lingus and left my 30th Birthday present on board. A Google Nexus 7 Tablet. It has a huge amount of sentimental value due to who gave it to me. If anyone comes across it please leave your details. Flight EI154. Reward offered.

After slipping down a steep bank into water near the Kylemore Road in South Dublin, Barney had been wandering in the stream for several hours.

UNTIL this dramatic rescue by the DSPCA and fire officers from Dolphin’s Barn.

Barney was suffering from hypothermia and it was feared he wouldn’t make it.

Well…

Barney this morning munching on hay.

Says an officer:

Barney is in the DSPCA rehabilitation stables receiving care and treatment after his ordeal and we will be looking for a new home for him in the near future.

Dublin SPCA

Week 3.

Dublin freelance designer Neve Connolly’s hand-crafted confection was a unaninous decision.

Hand-crafted, you say?

Oh yes.

Sez Neve:

All the line work was done using black thread, which is something I’ve been playing around with lately. Once that was finished I used sewing needle to pierce little holes in the letters. I then mounted it onto a piece of glass and lit it from underneath. I wanted the ‘Le Cool’ to glow like the lights of a city seen when flying at night in an airplane, or hot air balloon, whichever air transport you prefer. The lines and pockets of colour depicting the energy/divilment created by people out and about, crossing paths, enjoying this great city. Le Cool at the heart of it all.

This is a fleg.

King George IV passing by the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin – and a specially erected ‘triumphal arch’ – in 1821. in a painting by William Tuner de Londe.

It was the first visit to Ireland by an English monarch since the 14th century.

Older readers may recall our post on the temporary arch for Queen Victoria’s visit to Dublin in 1900.

Good times.
