What looks like USB chargers on the back of some seats on a new [Dublin] bus, route 122 this evening. Sweet! But not plugging in until I know more.. (worried about power surges and just paid out for a brand new phone).

Anyone?

    If he spent 10 seconds googling he’d have seen articles talking about how the new busses all have usb ports.

      And you’d rather trust an article than ask the opinion of people who might have actually used it. Sure we’re knowers of knowledge here on BS, you should know that.

    You cant get a power surge on a USB charger unless you are trying to charge something massive that needs to draw more power than the outlet can provide. One phone? You’ll be grand.

    With USB 1.0 and 2.0, a standard port is capable of delivering up to 500mA (0.5A);
    (USB 3.0 moves up to 900mA/0.9A)

    Your phone is capable of absorbing about 5 Watts (5 volts at 1000 mA).
    Your tablet is capable of absorbing about 10 watts (5.1 volts at 2100 mA).

    Just lock the phone as it is charging. Worry over. That is if phone are connected to any back end infrastructure and not just dumb leccy terminals.

    @ Maccers…

    You dodged a bullet there my friend.
    Stay alert, and don’t start sucking up bandwidth you don’t know how to use properly.
    Leave it to the professionals.
    Or switch to Android and read up on phone-security.
