Survivors and family members of some of the 48 people killed in the Stardust Fire arrive for a three-day pre-inquest hearing into the 1981 tragedy. 25 family members accepted an invitation to attend today’s session.

Survivor Antoinette keegan said

We’re hoping we get the truth on public record, once and for all. Because our loved ones went out Friday the 13th and never came home Saturday the 14th. So we want to know what happened to our loved ones, like our human beings, our loved ones.”

Villa ‘E-1027’.

Renowned Irish designer Eileen Gray’s renovated 1929 house in the Côte d’Azur, south of France has re-opened its doors to the public.

E-1027 (to be pronounced ‘e-ten-two-seven’). ‘E’ stands for ‘Eileen’, followed by ‘10’ for ‘J’ (representing ‘Jean’), then ‘2’ for ‘B’ (‘Badovici’) and finally ‘7’ for the ‘G’ in ‘Gray’. Jean Badovici was a Romanian architect, Gray’s then-partner and the owner of the villa. According to Gray, he collaborated with her on the site’s general plan.

Activists from socialist republican party Éirígí unveil a banner outside of the Central Bank high-security currency centre facility in Sandyford calling for the site to be used for the construction of Universal Public Housing.

Last April, in a move that indicated a forthcoming sale of the 37-acre site,  the Central Bank asked Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown council to maintain residential zoning on the site.

In 2018, the site was taken off the land hoarder’s list in 2018 because of the high cost of securing the currency facility.

Éirígí’s representative for the Rathdown area, Brian Leeson, said,

“The Central Bank recently wrote to DLR to request that the residential zoning of their Sandyford facility be maintained. As part of that request the Central Bank outlined that it is actively considering selling off some or all of this 37 acre site. We are here today to highlight the fact that this land is potentially going to be sold off to a private developer or vulture landlord and to demand that it is instead retained in permanent public ownership.

To put the size of the full site in context, it is ten acres bigger than the Central Mental Hospital site in Dundrum and unlike that site, there are no historically important buildings which must be preserved. It could easily accommodate over 1,000 new homes as well as new community facilities and new recreational areas – 1,000 permanently affordable homes for local people from all income backgrounds who are currently being denied access to secure, affordable housing.”

The Covid-19 vaccination programme is poised to include 12 to 15 year-olds.

Via RTE:

A recommendation that all children in this age category be included has been made to the Government by the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC).

It is expected to be approved by the Cabinet today.

Speaking on his way into the Cabinet meeting, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said there would be further advice from NIAC regarding vaccinations for 12 to 15 year-olds, which he said represents a “significant opening up” of the vaccination programme to younger age cohorts.

Mr Martin said it has been a very effective programme so far and the Government wants to encourage “heightened participation” among the remaining age groups.
