Sorcha Richardson – Ruin Your Night

Dublin-born, New York-based Sorcha has reached – count ’em – 10 million streams on Spotify of this song she wrote in her bedroom in Brooklyn.

To celebrate, she booked herself into Windmill Lane Studios to record this stripped down acoustic version with her bandmate Theo on piano.

A new single is also imminent.

Catch this tremendous talent play rare Irish shows this Friday at Dublin Whelan’s and on Sunday at Cork Cyprus Avenue.

Nick says
: Ruin Your Night has made my day.

Sorcha Richardson

Lennon/McCartney. Morrissey/Marr. Forster/McLennan. The holy trinity of immortal songwriting partnerships.

With Grant McLennan, his soul mate from The Go-Betweens, now with the angels, Robert Forster is taking his solo career to such great heights with his new album ‘Inferno’.

Having played a rapturously received show last night in Dublin’s Button Factory, the Australian indie statesman plays his first ever show in The Rebel County tonight at Cyprus Avenue, Caroline Street, Cork.

It’s also the last night of his European tour. You’d be mad to miss it.

Nick says: Here comes a city now!

Pat O’Mahony writes:

25 years ago [last Tuesday] I saw The Auteurs in the recently-razed Tivoli Theatre, Dublin. 1994 wasn’t a bad year at all in fact at the old Francis Street venue, was it?

In fairness.

BOUTS – Passing Through

Homegrown power-pop doesn’t get any better than BOUTS.

The video for ‘Passing Through’ – the extremely catchy new single from their second album ‘Flow’ – was shot in Amsterdam and is giving us that Friday feeling.

If you’re a Weezer-loving geezer, you’ll want to catch the Dublin four-piece – that’s Niall, Barry, Dan and Colin – when they play the Knockan Stockan festival in Blessington in July.

Nick says: Introducing your new favourite band… BOUTS!

Polyglove – Solstice

Analog lo-fi dreamy techno from beyond the astral plane. That’s how Dubin-based electronic duo PolyGlove describe their sound on their Bandcamp page. And that’s just what they serve up on their new EP ‘Leisureplex’.

The video for the hypnotic final song on the EP, ‘Solstice’, was inspired by “nature, paganism and nostalgia” and will appeal to any animal-lovers out there.

PolyGlove say:

“We centred production around analog tape delays and endless reverbs, prioritising our poly synths… opening up the sound for a richer melodic experience.”

Nick says: PolyGlove is in the air

Finnian – Even Flow

Dundalk troubadour Finnian Kelleher channels James Taylor and ‘Harvest’-era Neil Young in this emotionally charged tale of the ‘charlie’ and the damage done.

Finnian pulls a master stroke in drafting in singer Stephanie Winters whose pitch-perfect vocal elevates the song to another level.

His debut album ‘Under The Influence’ is due later this summer.

Nick says: ‘Even Flow’ is all Finnian’s own work and not to be confused with the classic Pearl Jam grunge anthem.

Bairbre Anne – 27

If you draw a straight line from Adele to Ellie Goulding, you’ll find Bairbre Anne somewhere in there.

Blessed with a deep and powerful voice, the soulful Dublin chanteuse is set to unveil her debut album ‘I Wanted To Do It Right, But There’s No Such Thing’ on May 31, with a headline show in Whelan’s of Wexford Street, Dublin 2 pencilled in for June 3 in between a nationwide tour as special guest of Paul Brady.

Nick says: 27 is a precarious age for musicians (ask Jack L) but we hope Bairbre Anne lives long and prospers.
