Earlier, In Rio

Rioting broke out in Rio de Janeiro during protests against rising public transport fares (and for better public services and working conditions) led by the country’s largest trade union.

A cameraman, Santiago Andrade from Brazilian station Band TV was hit by what was thought to have been a tear gas canister or homemade explosive. He was taken in a critical condition to hospital where he has undergone emergency surgery.

“The Gay Ideological Movement”

Senator Jim Walsh in the Seanad this morning spoke about intimidation and threats towards David Quinn and asked:

“Can we deal with these dangerous, vicious elements within the gay ideological movement?”.

Minutes later, Senator Ronan Mullen asked if GLEN could disassociate themselves from what was said “on the Saturday Night Live (sic) / Brendan O’Connor programme”.
