Garda Commissioner Noirin O’Sullivan [with Garda Ian Redican] launching The Garda Photography section’s new facial recognition system Evo-Fit at Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin this morning.
Evo-Fit boasts a “suspect identification rate of about 60 per cent – approximately ten times higher than traditional methods used”.
So it’s only a matter of time before they find the lantern-jawed beast.

They write:
Ewe won’t believe who just joined us today at Airfield! Our first new lamb of 2015!
That’ll learn her.
Jake writes:
I know you don’t normally do this but my sister’s bike was taken from our front garden in Irishtown [Dublin 4] sometime last night. She brought it back with her from the States and she loved it dearly. Its theft has completely ruined her Friday feeling. The picture is a little unclear but it is a blue Schwinn with a black Brooks saddle. If anyone comes across it we would appreciate a heads up. Thanks.
Anyone?

The launch of Union of Students in ireland (USI)I Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance (SHAG) campaign in the Odeon, Harcourt Street, Dublin last night.
The campaign is in collaboration with the HSE Crisis Pregnancy Programme, Durex, MSD Ireland and “a broad range of organisations working in the area of sexual health”.
The USI SHAG campaign writes
Irish research has found that 80% of young people use contraception every single time they have sex. That means 20% – or one in five – take risks from time to time and can end up contracting an STI or having an unplanned pregnancy. We also know that in 2013 three-quarters of chlamydia cases were reported in people aged less than 30 years, with the largest proportion aged 20-24 years (42.2%). is intended to raise awareness of sexual health among students in the hope that those who are sexually active will have enjoyable, consensual, safer sex and will get tested regularly for STIs.

Cian Ginty, of Irish Cycle, writes:
Four options for a segregated two-way cycle route along the quays in Dublin City are expected to be made public next week and public consultation is due to start on the preferred route along the River Liffey next month.
IrishCycle.com understands that 12 options for the project have been narrowed down to 4 options — these are expected to be presented to Dublin City Council commities this month, including the traffic and transport commitie, which is due to take place next Wednesday.
…
One of a number of options for a two-way cycle route on the north quays is seen as the most feasible route design due a number of issues, including more daylight on the north quays and major pinch points on the south quays which cannot be bypassed. An insight into the details of the cycle route was given last October when an outline of the plan to extend the Croppies Acre memorial park, at the front of Collins Barracks, out onto the riverside. The plan would allow for a car-free public park at the river side and two-way walking and cycle route along a central section of the north quays. That outline shows how buses could be moved off the north quays between Parkgate Street and Church Street.
