Independent TD Finian McGrath said the problem of dog litter “is under the radar” compared to the attention given to water and household charges. The Dublin North Central deputy said he had seen three types of dog owners, “responsible ones, the irresponsible ones and the ones who pretend to be responsible. “The responsible owners picked up the litter, the irresponsible owners do not care . . . and the ones who pretend to be responsible . . . let their dogs out at night, when everybody is gone to bed, to run around the green and destroy the greens in housing estates.”

[Savita Halappanavar’s husband Praveen leaves Galway Courthouse at the inquest into his wife’s death in April of last year. It found she died of medical misadventure]

You may recall how Praveen Halappanavar did an interview with Miriam O’Callaghan last year after it emerged he intended to sue the HSE for medical negligence following the death of his pregnant 31-year-old wife Savita.

During the interview, he said he had been receiving ‘abusive letters’. He told Ms O’Callaghan:

‘One particular campaigner that keeps writing again and again. So, basically, I was told to leave the country and was told to clean the mess that, you know, I have…our country has, rather than cleaning the mess here, you know, to leave with the stuff for them to clean and mind my own business.’

Further to this, the Irish Independent is reporting that Praveen has left Ireland to live and work in California.

[RTÉ’s managing director of news and current affairs Kevin Bakhurst] said RTÉ was facing legal actions from “some well-known political figures”. While some actions were fair, others were “spurious, expensive and are a public game of who-blinks-first, with a major price tag attached on our side – and where we are dealing with public money.” He added there were “a small number of extremely wealthy and extremely litigious individuals who seek to use the courts to shut down any public debate or discussion of their affairs – which in most cases would be perfectly legitimate areas of exploration or discussion. I think probably enough said on that one.”
