Seraphine Habimana (left) in Rwanda

Jessica Ryan writes:

“This time four years ago, myself and some [Trinity College] classmates travelled to Rwanda to carry out a field study. While there we met a university student called Seraphine who acted as an interpreter for us.
In those four years Seraphine graduated top of her class and went on to work with the New Times, a Rwandan newspaper. Seraphine recently received the excellent news that she’s been accepted to the MA in Journalism in DIT and we’re trying to make that a reality. We’ve begun a crowd funding page to help her pay her fees and get to Ireland . Seraphine will live with one of our families in Ireland for the year, which will cover accommodation expenses and breakfast/dinner. We’re now looking to raise funds to cover university fees, transport, visa fees, and living expenses.
“It would be great if any Broadsheet readers would be able to help. Her achievements to date are not to be sniffed at. Like many Rwandans, Seraphine’s life was dramatically impacted by the genocide in ’94, in which she lost both her parents. If you’re not in a position to donate, it would be great if you could at least read Seraphine’s story [link below]…thank you.?

This year’s DIT 2014 Graduate Photography Exhibition officially opens tonight and runs until June 15th in the Gallery of Photography and National Photographic Archive in Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin. It’s a collection of new work by visual artists from arguably the most respected photography course in Ireland (I would say that, being a graduate), and there will probably be some free wine too.

Scenes from the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU) protest at the Department of Education’s site for the new DIT education campus in Grangegorman, Dublin this morning.

Sam writes:

“Union members blocked the entrance in a dispute over pay and conditions and conditions of Workers at the site. The Union say that workers should be getting the appropriate rates of pay including sick pay, pension and mortality benefit which they are not getting on this site.”

Jury, you will hear every word.

Helena Murphy writes:

This year the IAPI/DIT Pitch Night has been re-named Pitch Fight.  It will see three teams of students from the IAPI/DIT Advertising & Digital Communications Postgraduate Diploma go head to head presenting insights and ideas on three societal issues before a live audience.

For the first time ever our students have been given the chance to work on three different briefs addressing societal briefs that could change the world.

The three briefs cover: Binge Drinking, Cyber Bullying and Male Suicide.

Pitch Fight happens Wednesday 27th November in the Dublin Institute of Technology, (DIT),  Aungier Street at 6pm.
