Cathedral Court, Dublin 8 (above) a development by Sherbourgh Enterprises owned by members of the O’Callaghan hotel family.

This morning.

The Irish Times revealed recently that Sherborough Enterprises, controlled by members of the family that owns the O’Callaghan hotel group, expects apartment owners at Cathedral Court in Dublin 8 to pay more than €5,000 each to repair building defects in an apartment block that it built and still partly owns.

Niamh Towey, in The Irish Times, reports:

The developer of a Dublin 8 apartment block with serious building defects has gained control of the board of the block’s owners’ management company (OMC).

…Three members of the O’Callaghan family – Noel, Paul and Charles O’Callaghan – are now on the board after a vote was held at an EGM last week.

Of the four private owners who put their names forward to join the board, two were elected.

Cearbhall Beggan, a private owner who had been on the board alongside Paul O’Callaghan for the last number of years, resigned in protest before the vote took place.

Former Player Wills tobacco factory on the South Circular Road, Dublin 8

A petition has been posted on Uplift, calling for affordable homes and “appropriate community facilities” to be built at the former Player Wills tobacco factory on the South Circular Road in Dublin 8.

The petition, posted by Rebecca Moynihan, says:

For over a decade now the Player Wills’ site on the South Circular Road has laid vacant. The site has been passed into the hands of NAMA with Grant Thornton appointed as receivers.

This site has the potential to have develop over 500 affordable homes with appropriate community facilities, in order to develop a sustainable community for decades to come.

The Minister for Housing should intervene to stop this land being transferred to a private equity firm and develop the site as cost rental and affordable housing to ensure that the housing needs of our citizens is met.

The petition can be read in full here

Anyone?

This morning.

At the corner of Cook Street and the R108, near St Audeon’s Park, Dublin 8.

Donal O’Dowd saw a group of people appear to check the pulse of a man lying on the street, while a man next to him was being consoled.

It’s believed the man was homeless but this hasn’t been confirmed.

At around 7.50am, the Dublin Fire Brigade arrived and, soon after, a blanket was placed over the man’s body. An ambulance and gardai then arrived.

A request for information has been lodged with the Garda Press Office.

Update:
The man was in his 40s, originally from Poland and was homeless, it has been confirmed by Inner City Helping Homeless (ICCH)

“Seen this on the way home from work on Monday evening, at the junction of Pleasant and Heytesbury streets in Dublin 8 (facing an easterly direction) at around 5.30pm and not sure exactly what I’m seeing here… either Ireland has a secret space programme we don’t know about or the “plane” on the left has an unusual trajectory relative to the one on the right..”
