The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) will be able to shut down workplaces which do not comply with new safety protocols aimed at preventing the spread of Covid-19, the Minister for Business Heather Humphreys has warned.

Employers will have to ensure their employees answer a survey before they return to work, and confirm whether or not they have Covid-19 symptoms or if they have been in contact with someone displaying symptoms.

Workers will also have to undertake induction training to ensure they are up to speed with public health advice.

New return to work rules will see no handshaking or sharing of cups (irish Times)

Extinction Rebellion activists have glued themselves to one government department and to the underside of a lorry outside another on a second day of protests in central London.

Police have made more than 400 arrests, and those camped out in Westminster have been ordered to move on.

The [UK] prime minister has described the activists as “unco-operative crusties”.

Protestors from Extinction Rebellion Ireland staged a ‘slow cycle’ along the Quays to “highlight the impact of carbon emissions from car traffic in the capital”.

Cyclists made their way from Dublin’s Heuston Station to the 3 Arena carrying banners asking the public to choose between making Dublin a ‘carpool or a swimming pool’, referring  to ‘rising’ sea water levels.

We may drown in hyperbole.

First thing I ask myself when I see a protest is “how sane do these people look”. And this crowd did not pass the test. And why would you make a load of signs that just have cryptic symbols on them? That’s completely contrary to the point of a big sign….
