On last night’s Tonight with Dearbhail McDonald (top), Dearbhail was joined by Ali Selim (Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland), Carol Hunt (Sunday Independent) and solicitor Kevin Brophy.

The discussion turned to polygamy and its role in Islam.

Note the subtle shaking of the head at 0:11 and wide-eyed disbelief at 0:39.

dhikr

Dhikr ‘pronouncement of God’, is a ritual Islamic devotional act that may take various forms.

For certain followers of Sufism, the ritual involves repetition of phrases and Prophetic supplications from the Qur’an accompanied by a circular dance, increasing in intensity often to the point of apparent ecstasy or trance.

Powerful stuff.

awesomer

Until the release of Innocence of Muslims, the 65-year-old Roberts has had an unremarkable career as a small-time director and editor. His directing credits include some softcore porn from the 70s and 80s like 1977’s Young Lady ChatterlyThe Sexpert and The Happy Hooker Goes to Hollywood, third of the Happy Hooker trilogy. (It’s probably no coincidence that the cast included at least two porn stars.) Roberts tried to break into action in 1991 with Karate Cop: “John Travis is the last honest cop in a future dominated by terroristic martial-arts gangs who fight gladiator-style in arenas.”
