A small video project from Le Cool Dublin to celebrate the start of Bealtaine Festival 2012, celebrating creativity as we age. Includes people like Jimmy Murakami (Where The Wind BlowsThe Snowman), Garry O’Neill (Where Were You), Fatti Burke (artist) and Aoife Walsh (editor, The South Circular) and yer man PJ who runs that James Joyce oddity shop, Swenys. Help the aged.

By Zoë Wong who sez:

I wanted to do something that showcased both fashion and a landmark in Dublin. Oscar Wilde was my first choice because his face says it all. He seems to be smiling about a dirty secret and I imagined our model Naomi as his BFF. In my mind, Oscar’s best friend would be a girl who has a modern but nostalgic sense of style.”

Blimey.

A striking yet also friendly-looking Irish Wolfhound by Dubliner James Earley, who started out as a graffiti artist on de streetz.

His work can be found “opposite the Project Arts Centre, the front of the Bernard Shaw, The Tivoli Theatre, Drury Street, the lane at the back of the Village, the Generator Hostel interior to name a few”. Naughty.

Caffiene Junkie by Steve Simpson who sez:

I had a great job, designing a coffee cup for Cavistons of Glasthule [Co Dublin], and was so happy with the result I wanted to create a whole range. This is the current extent to the range! (I discovered, while doing this, I’ve never had a Cappuccino!)

Le Cool Dubliin (new issue)

By master illustrator Steve Simpson.

This week’s issue is dedicated to journalist Cian Hallinan (above), a Le Cool Dublin and Dubliner contributor, who died last week.

From the Le Cool staff:

A generation of friends stood still in the sunlight yesterday. They stood to mourn the untimely loss of a friend and to celebrate the life of an amazing person – Cian Hallinan. Eloquent, heartfelt and humourous stories were recounted about this gifted person who wore many cloaks of talent – comedian, critic and teacher to name but a few. Like so many others we knew Cian too. From clubs, pubs and parties to walking by Grogan’s [Dublin] on a summer evening, he dipped in and out of so many of our lives. He occasionally wrote for us and we covered some of his magnificent Voicebox shows in the Twisted Pepper. His voracious appetite for knowledge, his sparkling presence and general aura of soundness were just a few of the foundations that cemented so many great relationships in his life.

Le Cool Dublin

The last of the Le Cool Dublin cover competition winners.

By photographer (and Grade II-listed hipser) Sean Jackson, who sez:

The cover is a photograph of actress Natalia Kostrzewa. It was part of an abstract, sun light story called Extinction and was beautifully styled by Ali Lynch.

By David Booth (a bit of a hottie) who sez:

This is the sceptical eye of my painting entitled ‘perfect imperfection’. It is the largest painting I’ve made for some time and follows me from studio to studio. It stands as a reference and a reminder to me of a certain pallet whose progression founded the roots/origin of an on-going investigation into portraiture.
