Big heeled boots to fill.

Martin McCann, a 1980s-era Paul Hewson in Killing Bono (2011) and currently the spit of Bono as he looked during the Pop album world tour meets Olaf Tyaransen and chats about adopting an American accent for early-Bono and his lead role in The Survivalist, a thriller based in post-apocalyptic Northern Ireland and presented at this month’s Galway Film Fleadh.

Olaf Tyarensen’s ‘Portrait’, part of a trilogy of short films has been shortlisted for the Ó Bhéal International Poetry-Film Award.

Portrait is a brief meditation on two of the biggest dangers facing a journalist with literary aspirations – alcohol and procrastination. It opens as he has just written the first two pages of a book that he hopes “will make her proud and them jealous.” It ends years later with him regretfully throwing them away, having never completed the work.

Winner to be announced on October 19.

Larry Love, (above) lead singer with the Alabama 3, plays grieving rock star Rick Rossi – a new arrival in Galway.

He’s been told that Galway people don’t care about celebrity.

It turns out that they don’t – but they also really want to make him aware of that fact…

Olaf Tyaransen writes:

…the brand new trailer for short Galway film, ‘Don’t You Know Who I Am?’ – starring Larry Love of Alabama 3, written by me and directed by Paul Duane. The film will be launched at Dublin/Galway events on May 1st/2nd (with myself, Paul and Larry in attendance) and then available to buy online via Distrify.
