Art Of Face

From Moscow-based photographer Alexander Khokhlov’s 2D or not 2D and Angry Beards projects in which – with the help of makeup artist Valeriya Kutsan and retouching expert Veronica Ershova – heexplores the transformative power of paint and makeup.
Inspired by two-dimensional posters, comics, pop art, paintings, pixelated images, and cartoon characters Khokhlov explains:
Valeriya used different techniques of face painting so you can see a lot of variations – from sketch and graphic arts to water-colour and oil-paintings. This is a combination of interesting make-ups, studio photography experiments and careful retouching.
And if you like these, check out Khokhlov’s Weird Beauty series.
Ruby – a stop motion short by London based animator and body painter Emma Allen, created in five days and featuring the artist’s face cycling from one form, through death and decay, to the next.
Daniel Gruchy and Gavin Free break out their high speed Phantom Flex camera and destroy a perfectly good speaker for your eye candification.
Photographer Peter Schafrick slathers Barbie dolls, tennis balls, dog chews and assorted toys with paint and uses a custom rig he calls the Spinster to whip them round at high speed, at which point he takes the shot.
More whirly goodness here.

Using nothing more than black and white eye pencil and eyeliner, black eyeshadow, some colouring, and – yes – a little bit of Photoshop (to remove pesky eyes and mouth) – Verauko goes full Silent Hill with the facepaint.
Daryl Feehely writes:
Here are a few shots [more here] from the Lisa Hannigan gig last night [at the Iveagh Gardens, Dublin]. They may be of interest because she got pelted with paint at the end as in the video for her song Knots.
Ros adds:
Here’s a video I took from up the front of the paint bit of the performance. Was such a special night.
