Actually, it’s been around for a while. For between $60 and $80, Liquipel will subject your mobile to a ‘gas deposition procedure’ that coats every single part of the device potentially exposed to air – inside and out – with an invisible layer of material making it completely waterproof, even submersible.

You send them the phone, they treat it, and send it back. 11 products eligible for the treatment include the iPhone 4/4S, the HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Galaxy II S.

Most integrated iPhone car adaptors impose their own control system rather than that of the iPhone. Yes. This is a decidedly first world problem.

Available from July (it’s not clear whether the above pix are CG or real), the minimalist Devium Dash ($290 – $340 + shipping) is:

…built around a (hinged) faceplate made to accommodate an iPhone or iPod touch, securing it in a CNC’d aluminum and plastic cradle while giving you full access to the touchscreen and all your apps. Other features of the Dash include a double-din body, 50W x 4 output with 2 preamp outputs, and your choice of standard aluminum or anodized black or white finishes.

The result of a successful Kickstarter project by Paul Lizer, future iterations may include possible faceplate upgrades for iPhone5, Android and other smartphones.

Nifty.
