Trick Mistback in Ireland, new single and upcoming launch gigs

What you may need to know…

01. Since the last time we stopped in with multi-instrumentalist Gavin Murray, a.k.a. Trick Mist, he’s been busy to say the least.

02. Before departing Manchester, he made an appearance at Chorlton Arts Festival, a ten-day marathon of the arts in the Mancunian suburbs.

03. Streaming above is a video from said appearance, performing Cracking Settlement live. Shot and edited by Claire Byrne.

04. New single Crumbs Abound is available now on iTunes, as well as on 7″ from Tower Records in Dubline, and Dundalk’s Classified Records. Catch him live for a hometown show at Classified on October 14th at 7pm.

Verdict: Sparse and stark electronics and guitar-play are coated with crooning, subverted by space and reverb.

What you may need to know.

01. Manchester-based Gavin Murray has lost none of his accent, judging by his recent output as ambient-electronic troubadour Trick Mist.

02. Last year saw the release of debut EP Jars in Rows, completely written, performed, mixed and recorded by Murray himself over the course of six months.

03. Streaming above is the video for single Crumbs Abound. Directed by Graham Patterson, it places a full living-room in the bogs of Connemara with which to create a thinkpiece.

04. Coming up next: a visit home, with a gig on Saturday in Dublin at Whelan’s, alongside fellow expat Video Blue and Dublin’s Participant.

Verdict: Pensive yet likeable electronica complements Murray’s baritone, creating sparse, atmospheric songs.

Trick Mist – Cracking Settlement

Of this latest video from his  EP ‘Jars in Rows’, Manchester-based Irish trad/electronica Gavin ‘Trick Mist’ Murray writes:

I’ve invited film makers to give their own visual interpretation of each song, entirely free from my input. The video for this tin whistle driven, electronic song was made by Graham Patterson. It’s stark and manages to be both restless and serene. If anyone in Spiddal saw some fella running around in the middle of the night with a torch and an iphone at arms length it was probably Graham making this video!

Your Brass Angel – Trick Mist

Manchester based electonica/tradster Gav of Triick Mist writes:

This is video No.3 from the ‘Gaps Series’. These are videos made for my EP ‘Jars in Rows’ but without my involvement in the process. Multiple artists were invited to respond to a song from the EP and in turn create a reactionary piece of video work based solely on their perception. This video created by video artist, director, editor Graham Patterson features loads of mouths floating around the place. I reckon Samuel Beckett would have definitely buzzed off it! ‘Jars in Rows’ EP is out now.

Trick Mist – Jars In Rows

Trick Mist writes:

I make Trad/electronic songs and I’m based in Manchester. You featured my band Bold Things over the years and I think you might like this too. I’m putting out my debut EP 29/10/15. Here’s a track from it.  It’s a song made with a pristine violin I found in a wheelie bin outside my flat! Its a shocking insight into how mundane ‘the busiest bus route in Europe’ is! I’m streaming the entire EP temporarily via a video of bus stop goings-on in south Manchester on my website from 24th-28th October.
