You might like this artistic response by the community of Cobh deployed at Saturdays hugely attended anti Irish Water protest march in Dublin. It sent a strong democratic reminder to the FF/FG coalition in everything but name, to act now and abolish the severely regressive Irish Water rip-off.

Being a Dubliner it was a pleasure to meet such a wide ranging group of people that took the trouble to attend the protest who were from all over Ireland. I very briefly spoke with a charming lady from Cobh that highlighted the wonderful community six month effort that went into making the knitted quilt.

The folks that created it had a very wide age range from the very young to the eldest being 104! The middle section at the top depicts the voracious vultures of Alan, Joan and Enda and beside them the dead ducks like the politicians they represent.

On the lower left hand corner we can see two civic minded ordinary decent tax payers protesting against Irish Water and on a poignant note the Garda represented was a long standing member of Cobh who I was assured was very anti Irish Water but unfortunately the gentleman has recently passed away.

I do like the addition of the tiny panda, usually to be found in Fota wild life park. Enjoy yourself casting your eye across the rest of the quilt and you don’t need to be genius to work out the rest!

Flying traffic cones last night outside Leinster House

Further to the melee outside the Dáil last night,

And following reports that a female garda was knocked unconscious,, Labour Senator Mary Moran and Anti Austerity Alliance Councillor Michael O’Brien spoke to Seán O’Rourke on RTÉ Radio One this morning.

On the matter of the female garda, this is what both contributors said:

Senator Mary Moran: “I must say the the scenes last night were nothing short of horrific, Sean, as I was leaving Leinster House. A female garda standing close to my car last night, it was unbelievable, traffic cones came across the car and hit the girl who was standing in a protective cordon and she dropped like a ton of bricks on to the ground. Now that was absolutely horrific, she was knocked unconscious. To me what was absolutely worse, after that was the fact that people seemed to think that this was funny and came up and started videoing it and laughing around it. I mean that girl was, seriously, to see somebody crumble. You know standing one minute and lying unconscious in the next minute was absolutely unacceptable I think last night.”

Anti Austerity Alliance Councillor Michael O’Brien: “I didn’t see the garda collapsing. I did see a cone travel over the garda lines and land on the car. That much I did see. I did see the garda in question being led in to an ambulance some half an hour after the incident and I don’t stand over the throwing of  objects whatsoever.”

You are Peter Splash, and you have the unenviable job of reading water meters on a busy Irish Street. Trying to stop you are angry protesters, even angrier dogs, burst water mains, cars, and more.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny is met by more than 200 protesters in Blackpool, Cork this morning where he announced 120 new jobs at Xanadu.

And they thought it was all over.

UPDATE:

Inside the Xanadu office, Gavin O’Reilly, of Today FM, reports Mr Kenny saying:

“We’re very happy that Ireland will measure up here because the scheme is being designed specifically for this purpose. And, as I say, Europe’s only involvement now is purely for statistical reasons… Government did listen, after Government admitted that it certainly didn’t get everything right here. And it’s dealt with the question of the PPS, and it’s dealt with the question of the bonus regimes, and it’s dealt with the question of what happens after 2019.”
